The Resort Town of Vilamoura

The Resort Town of Vilamoura

I stumbled on Vilamoura like I do most things…by accident.

Vilamoura is about three miles from Quarteira(kar-tarah), where I’m spending a couple of weeks browsing around, reading and writing.

One day I’m doing one of the things I really like to do…I like to walk down the neighborhoods exploring the narrow winding streets and alleys.  There’s no telling what I might find.  I might find a dog, an abandoned building, a graffeti enhanced wall, a quaint coffee shop or bar…I just love to do this.

On this particular day, I did that sort of walk, only it was an extended walk…..3 miles to Vilamour Resort and Marina.

This caught me by surprise!!!  An amazing resort marina with an abundance of shops, restaurants, bars, etc. I’ve been around a bit, visited my share of marinas but never have I seen one this ‘large’ with so much variety of things to do.  There was this one yatch, I couldn’t fit it in my photo frame!!!!  But, I did find some others at Vilamoura that fit my fancy.

This marina is ridiculously ‘HUGE’!!!  Here’s my future ‘boat’, or maybe this little one.  I’m preferring the Brutus one….someone has suggested I change the name.  I’ll consider if they pay the cost, but I’m liking ‘Brutus’ more and more.

This all just started by walking down the neighboring winding streets and alley ways.  Just writing this fills me with excitement.

So, here I am in Vilamoura and I didn’t know where the heck I was.  As far as I was concerned I was still in Quarteira and I surely didn’t realize I had walk 3 miles already!

Vilamoura!

Here’s some of the sights… From here in this photo I’m in one of the horseshoe curves facing the Atlanic Ocean, on the right is the marina, the left a few of the shops that line the street. At the end is The Vilamoura Resort and Hotel.  There is only private access by vehicle to this area.

There are restaurants on the waterside of the streets as well, some are an extention of their street establishments while others are of a different owner and name.

Here’s my first Mexican Food Restaurant that I have encountered in Portugal.

I’ll get a bit ahead of myself here….this day is 7 1/3 mile walk.  Yeah it’s a 3 mile walk from Quarteira to Vilamoura, but I like the sights of the sidestreets and alley ways.  So for this walk it’s 7 1/3 miles.

There was this ‘Majestic’ beauty greeting me as I was walking in from the beach. Sitting next to a Portuguese Navy ship.  I tried to keep the Navy ship out of the photo as much as possible focusing on the beauty of the ship but, I just couldn’t get the right angle.  I still think it’s pretty cool.   In color too….

Here are some of the neighborhood streets and winding alley ways.

This is a biggie everywhere in Portugal….Sardines! Sold in fine food establishments like this one.

  I came, I saw, I photographed!

This, before the end of the 7 and a third mile was a tiresome walk…just so much was grabbing my attention and pulling me here and there.

The one thing I wish I could’ve done was to buy my grandson, Cooper a small Portuguese soccer ball.  But, I have nowhere or way to pack it.  I’ll try another country right before I leave back for the states.

When I’m glad I was curious enough….Vilamoura!

I’m telling you!!!  It was cold out here!  They almost fell!  They are in the channel of the marina heading out to the Atlantic Ocean (lots of folks out there already!).

This was a mighty fine time which deserved a return visit.  This time closer to the 6 mile roundtrip and a bit more relaxing taking everything in….including a couple ice cold local beers.

When it’s all said and done, and I’ve counted the Euros in my pocket I’ll have to pass on this beauty and settle perhaps for this little lovelybut I’m still a bit short on cash.

Peace, love, and beaches,

John
