Doing It Like A Rockstar, Sort Of….

Doing It Like A Rockstar, Sort Of….

Yeah, the ‘sort of’ is the idea.

So, now what am I talking about?

Well, I’m back to my European tour and I’m learning a lot!

I’d been frustrated over the past few weeks of my planning because I seemed to be running over budget every time I’d tweak the itinerary, sleeping arrangements, food, transportation….. it was getting me down and got me to thinking, “can I do this?”.  Which actually was begging to get me a bit depressed.  Afterall, this what I quit work to do!

I seems that I was ignoring an important factor that I had already learned and lived by with more restraints than was necessary and yet I was ignoring the very thing I knew until just yesterday.

Do it like a ‘rockstar’.

I can see how that would be confusing as ‘rockstars’ live a rather luxurious life.  Right?  But they have business managers and itinerary managers and consultants and frontmen that do a lot of ground work that allows them to enjoy their time on the road.  Without those worker bees their touring wouldn’t last very long.

I was long ago aware of all the work that went into a tour without partaking.  And I had a partial understanding. My full understanding while still in its infancy is much clearer now.

There I was yesterday evening reading thru one of the tour guide books where there was this almost overlooked section that spanned the bottom of 2 pages.  It was referring to establishing a home base and provided the suggestions for those locals throughout Europe.!

It’s the way major rockstar tours are planned.  They may be doing concerts in Chicago, Baltimore, New York, Nashville, Cleveland, Buffalo, etc. but flying back to Cincinnati after every gig!  At least for their northeastern leg of their tour.

I had previously discovered this when living in Mexico.  First I’d read about it in passing and I actually thought it thru as a means of having some stability…..a home sort of.  I just homesteaded a bit more than I should have.

Having a home base brings a bit of stability and having a familiar place to hangout when you’re not traveling to really enjoy your downtown.  Constant moving, packing and unpacking can be quite wearing.  It also is cheaper. Someone would rather rent their place for a longterm than have short terms but mover vacancies.

And the same holds true for a traveler.  To hop around from place to place sounds dandy, but the inconvenience and additional cost is a bit much.

Rockstar treatment!

So, there I sat yesterday reviewing my itinerary of Portugal and began rethinking my touring.  The methods of ground transportation are superior to here in the United States and quite inexpensive.

I was able to figure out on a preliminary basis a central location to venture out from using bus, rail, trolley and taxi that would see mostly the whole country……allow me to fly out for 2 weeks to Madeira Island and back to Lisbon for my train to Spain.

Relief……The Rockstar life isn’t too bad.  Lots to learn from their planning.  Bus traveling rockstars, that’s a different story.

I am now relieved.  I have cut my cost of traveling in Portugal about 40%(maybe more!) making things very comfortable and giving me my much-needed peace of mind.

You see, I’m not making a quick jaunt to Europe.  No, this is an extended stay of 18 months and maybe longer depending on my pleasure.  The only reason thus far for me to return to the United States is the renewal of my Florida Drivers License.  If my pleasures outweigh my need for a vehicle……that goe to the wayside and I’ll keep trucking.  After all, I have Egypt, India, Australia, Thailand and a few other places in my sight…..  Including more Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South America.

I’m feeling much better, a bit like a rockstar.

Peace, love, and beaches,

John
