Top Ten Bookish Gifts (That Aren’t Books)

Tags: hereget

It’s Tuesday! And what does that mean? Top Ten Tuesday, of course! TTT is a weekly feature hosted at The Artsy Reader Girl in which on every TuesdayJana assigns a topic and we get to compile a list of ten things that go with that topic.

This week’s topic is a freebie, which means that we get to come up with our own topics!

All bookworms LOVE getting books. It’s an easy gift to give as well. And as much as I don’t mind getting books from everyone on every occasion, it’s still sometimes exciting to receive something a little different once in a while.  I decided to go with Top Ten Bookish Gifts (That Aren’t Books) for people who want to mix it up and gift their bookish friends something other than a book, but are all out of ideas!

And If you are that bookish friend who wants something a little different, feel free to send this to your friends as a (not so subtle) hint as to what you want this year!

Let’s get started!

1. Bookends

Somewhat of an obvious choice, bookends still never fail to excite me. One of my favourite items to window-shop online are bookends. They’re just so pretty.

The best part is no matter what kind of a person you are, there are always bookends to match it; Modern, classy, quirky, gothic… you will find a bookend to match your personality.

If your bookish friend has an Instagram account featuring books, they will definitely, one hundred percent, appreciate this gift!

2. Pillows

Much like Sheldon Cooper, all bookworms have their “spot”.

A spot that they go to read, one which they feel comfortable in. For me, that spot is my bed. I love reading on my bed. Others have their favourite chairs, reading nooks, a little corner in their house.

Whatever it may be, there’s nothing more annoying than when you can’t find the perfect position on your spot so that you can be one with it. Help your bookish friend make their spot more comfortable by getting them some cute pillows for it!

3. Socks

I just love getting socks as gifts, even if they’re bookish. Being cozy while reading is one of the best feelings and nothing makes me cozier than big, fluffy socks!

4. Book Sleeves

I love carrying a book with me wherever I go. Not just in planes and trains to pass the time while travelling, but also just malls, cafes, anywhere. I like always having a book in my bag.

What I don’t like, and I’ll have you know this is my second biggest pet peeve, falling behind only people constantly interrupting me while I try to read, is when the edges on my books get ruined because of constantly being in my bag.

Up until recently I didn’t even know there was a thing such as book sleeves. I just used to wrap my books in newspaper before putting them in my bag, but this is so much better!

5. Bookmarks

I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve used things that were definitely not meant to be bookmarks as bookmarks; scrap paper, newspaper, pens, you name it. I just hate dog-ears.

This one time I literally used my debit card as a bookmark; That’s how desperate we always are for bookmarks. The more the merrier. So go ahead, gift some bookmarks and see the smile spread across you bookish friend’s face.

6. Mugs

Do me a favour, go and google Bookstagram. Or search up #Bookstagram on Instagram. Just do it for me. One of the two most common props used are cups of coffee/tea (I’ll get to the second prop in the next gift idea).

It’s insane how every other picture on Bookstagram accounts has a cup of tea/coffee in it. I think that serves as an indication as to how much us bookworms love our daily dose of caffeine. So what better gift than to give us something to put our teas in?

If you don’t want to go for a simple bookish mug, then try an aesthetically pleasing, functional or eco-friendly choice instead!

7. Lights and Candles

Coming to the second most used prop for Bookstagrams – candles. Candles are amazing as props, while lamps and booklights help read past your bedtime. Just one more chapter, right?

Either way, luminous objects make a good gift!
