Do you have to love your family just because they’re your family?

Your Family, your blood relations are never chosen by you; You’re born into it. Many a times, people believe that you love everyone in your family just because they’re your blood and more often than not, they get surprised or even offended when you tell them that you don’t. Maybe while you’re reading this, you too believe that it is our obligation to love blood relations. But I think differently.

As is true and widely said, we do not choose who are family is and that sometimes lead to us not liking the people surrounding us. And that is, I think natural because truly, it is not necessary that you always end up loving people who you had no hand in choosing.

It is said that family is always there for you, and it is somewhat true. But the real question is, would they still be there if they weren’t family? If you were just two people who happened to meet, would they love, or even like you?

Personally, there are some people in my family that I would rather not be associated with and yet, if I were to voice these opinions, it would be frowned upon and oh, the consequences. Don’t even get me started on those. So no matter what, I’m stuck with people who I have not chosen and that is not true love.

But, there are also people in my family that I do love and would gladly choose as the people I spend my life with. And outside of blood relations, there is always a family that you choose. Your friends.
