Synopsis:

Afterimage by J. Kowallis is a fast paced dystopian romance set after World War III.
I have no strong feelings towards this book. It had its own set of merits and demerits that left me feeling quite nuetral towards it in the end.
What I liked about the book:
- It was more focused on actually telling the story rather than describing the characters’ sex lives. The sole focus of this book wasn’t romance and the author actually took out time to build a story.
- The book was action packed with gory details included in the torture scenes making them more believable and vivid inside my head.
- It has been written through multiple POVs giving us a chance to understand every character better and feel what they were feeling.
- Characters in most dystopian novels are teenagers but here, most of them were in their 20’s which gave them a new level of maturity which was nice and refreshing to read about.
What I didn’t like about the book:
- The plot was a typical dystopian plot. The story was somewhat interesting but it was not something that stands out in a crowd of books and screams ‘READ ME!’
- A lot of parts of the book were predictable and didn’t provide me with the wow factor that I was hoping for
- I feel that the background could have been constructed with more details. There could also have been more details provided regarding the Public One.
- Even though I’d eventually like to read the next book in this series, I am not rushing into buying it. In other words, the ending did not leave me craving for more.
