Lifestyle Review: An Alternative Valentine's Day Gift Guide

It's officially February and the countdown for Galentine's Day and Valentine's Day has already begun. The shops are filling up with chocolates, teddy bears and roses - but who actually wants that stuff? Especially when you could have some really cool Alternative bits that you can enjoy all-year-round instead. And so, I've put together a list of my top picks for an alternate Valentine's day...

To help me create my alternative Valentine's day in style, Grindstore* have very kindly allowed me to pick some of my favourite pieces from their website to share with you all. If you've not heard of them before, you are missing out as they've are the UK home of alternative products since 2004. From the best TV shows and film, to fashion, bands and memorabilia or even home pieces wavering on the goth side, there is plenty to choose from. Here were some of my favourites from their collection.

What better way to say 'I love you to death' than with this gorgeous Coffin Display Shelf*? If you find a lot of your home inspiration on Instagram, you may have spotted these amazing little wooden shelves popping up all over the place. The shelves are perfect for storing makeup, small plants or little trinkets (much like my collection of ghosties pictured) and makes for an ideal Valentine's Day gift for under £20. The finish on this one from Grindstore means you can easily paint it to any colour to suit your home. It also super light-weight and comes with little hooks on the back to be hung on the wall.

If you're looking for Valentine's day gifts for under £10, there's still plenty of pieces to choose from. I know everyone puts a lot of pressure on people to spend money over Valentine's Day but I honestly think it's far more about the thought than anything the cost. A few favourites from this section included this really cute We Are The Weirdos Mister Ouija notepad* (inspired by the film, The Craft) and an equally bewitching Ouiji Talking Board Mug*. An added bonus to my package was also these Deadly Tarot Tin Sign Set* which you can hang on the wall or just use as a cute decorative piece around the house. I found they're all a great edition to my desk at work which is primarily made up of ghosts, Pop Vinyls and goth memorabilia.

Last but certainly not least, my favourite section of the site is probably the official Disney merchandise. With our two Disney trips planned for later this year, I'm stocking up on plenty of pieces - including their beauty bits such as face masks, bath bombs and wash sets. You can never have too many of these for holiday or for pampering sessions all year round. An adorable little edition to any fairy goth-mother home is this official licence Nightmare Before Christmas Jack face cushion*. I had never actually come across this product before, until now, but it's super comfy as my new desk chair cushion. I also really like to change up my living room cushions seasonally so this could just be another item for this year's Halloween/Christmas decorations. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Well, that's it for another gift guide. What are your plans for Valentine's or Galentine's Day this year? Which of the pieces above would you most like to receive from a loved one? As always, I love reading your comments so please do share your thoughts with me below.

Until next time lovers, whatever your plans are this year, have a good one,
