The Mixed Girl TAG

Hello hello~

Today I will be doing a tag post, it's my first time doing one of these.=P I've seen people do this tag on Youtube, and I'm guessing some people might have also done it on their blogs as well~ I'm a Mixed girl and I thought to myself, why not do this tag on my blog^.^ So, here we go~

Q:1. What are you mixed with?
A: I'm mixed Canadian & Portuguese~

Q:2. What ethnicity have you often been mistaken for?
A: I've often been mistaken for many ethnicities, such as; Brazilian, Greek, Middle Eastern, Spanish, and mixed Asian.
Q:3. Is your hair curly or straight?
A: My hair is naturally straight-wavy.
Q:4. Was coming from different backgrounds challenging growing up?
A: Not reallyyyy but, there was times when I would feel like I didn't fit in with the other kids at School. Back in elementary school, there was a lot of Portuguese students and they would know how to speak 2 languages. Sometimes they would randomly start talking to each other and I wouldn't have any idea what they were saying. They would say things to me like; you're Portuguese too aren't you? No she isn't because, she doesn't understand us. I do know how to say some things in that language but, not enough to actually have a conversation with someone. At home my family just speaks English to each other, I would occasionally hear my mom speak to her friend on the phone in Portuguese so, I guess that's where I kind of picked up some words.
Q:5. Which backgrounds do you embrace the most?
A: I equally embrace both backgrounds. I don't feel like I'm more one than the other. I embrace being me. Everyone has their own personality and that isn't based off of where your from, it's just who you are. Yes, your background is a part of you but, it isn't everything that you are.
Q:6. Have you ever been teased for being different?
A: A few times when I was younger, back in elementary school some kids would tease me. Because I'm mixed, I may not look like someone from the countries that my parents are from. Some people would say I look weird because, I don't look like Canadian girl (white) or a Portuguese girl. I even went through a phase in school where people would say that I was lying about my ethnicity... Then they would come up with one for me and just say that I'm from there. Pretty stupid right? It hurt my feelings at the time but, I started to not care after awhile and it eventually stopped.

Q:7. Have you ever been ashamed of being multiracial?
A: Never in my life, have I once been ashamed of being multiracial. Although I went through some phases in school when I was younger, of people saying things to me and hurting my feelings here and there. I'm proud to be who I am. I'm myself and unique, so is everyone else in the world. No matter if they are mixed or not, not one person the same.

Q:8. Do you feel that being mixed has its benefits?
A: Yes there is. =P My dad is from Canada and my mom from Portugal so, when it comes to food at my home there's always a huge selection of different dishes~ haha I love eating so I find that to be pretty awesome~ Also, the different traditions that they each do, I get to experience both sides of that. One example is; on Christmas, you would sometimes see people open up their gifts on Christmas morning right? But in Portugal a lot of families would open up their gifts on Christmas Eve. =P Being mixed can also give you some unique features in your appearance as well so, that's cool. =P

Q:9. What makes being multiracial a beautiful thing?
A: One thing being, the fact that two people from different countries fell in love with each other and started a family together (my brother and I). A lot of times, all around the world, some individuals would actually frown upon people who date other people that aren't from their country. It's really sad, but nowadays I've noticed so many interracial couples and I find that beautiful. Another thing would be the history behind both sides of the family, my dad and mom would tell me stories about their families and the past generations. What they went through, what they've seen, it's just amazing.

Q:10. Any advice to someone who struggles with their multiracial identity?
A: Love who you are! No matter what anyone says. You know who you are and no one can ever change that~ If people say or do things to hurt your feelings, don't let it get to you. They have no clue what they're saying (seriously) or they're just really immature people. Each country is so different from the other, some people say its like a whole new world to them each time they travel. So think of it as you have the best of both worlds or, if you're mixed with more than 2 ethnicities, you have the best of so many different worlds. You are so unique in many different ways~ If you feel like you should lean toward one background more because, of what people say, don't. Embrace everything about yourself and Ignore all the labels, they're stupid! If people don't accept you for who you are then, they aren't worth your time. You will find people who love you for you and you'll fit in perfectly fine~ ^.^ <3

That was deep~ But, I do hope it helped someone out there. Just remember, you are beautiful, you are unique~! <3

           Take care ^.^<3
