Movie Review : The Little Prince

I watched the said movie last evening (Jan 30, 2016). Why did I watch the movie?

1.      I’d read the Book back on September 2015 ! And I love the book. Definitely would recommend the book for everyone since the themes is general. Previously, I didn’t have a much love for ‘universal’ thingy like sun, earth, stars, moon, outer space etc. but the book changed my opinion. Absolutely the film helps me to visualizing my imagination to right place. Maybe I read it or decipher its meaning in my very own way so when I finished reading it, my understanding about God has increased (i.e. Why outer space is too unreachable ... mankind has no much power to control the universe). Because I love the book, it won’t hurt if I give the movie chances.

2.      I haven’t watched any single movie in 2016. This is my first movie to watch !! I quit watching movie since ... maybe semester two. I don’t quite rememberwell but yah ...around that time. But perhaps I’m not 100% a quitter, because I watch movie some time in a year. I watched Chloe and Theo last year ...and Spongebob XD I like it the best to watch movie in late night. Because the atmosphere is quiet so that I will listen the dialogues clearly and I can concentrate more easily.

3.      Back to reason no #1. XD Because I love the book and I can foresee no romance involved in the story so I will watch the movie. I don't like most romance movies. Watching movie takes a lot of time. Back then, my favorite romance movie was “The Confession of a shopaholic”. It also book adapted to movie. When I were still had the copy, I watched it some times. I also loved the movie so when I deleted all my movie, I excluded it. But now I only have Chloe and Theo and Little Prince. Sometimes, I missed the nostalgic feeling of watching romance movie.

4.      Someone makes a review about the movie. She wrote that the movie adaptation is different than the book. So I want to watch the movie sometime. Because I don’t know if I should watch it or leave it. If I love the book, it doesn’t mean I would watch the movie adaptation. Like I’d written above, I don’t like to see romance film. But sometimes I read the book, like the fault in our stars, paper towns, eat pray love, etc. And this English challenge #16.2 also encourages me to write something. I’d already downloaded the film yesterday. Finally I watched it today.

5.      I have the time. And I make the time. So, take my time.

After I watched the movie

I should mention this to you : I don’t expect the movie must be that long (1 hour 46 minutes 34 seconds). So I skipped so many times. But I stayed til the end.

The movie adaptation was different from the book. But I’m not disappointed, though. I like the cartoon, but the Little Prince was too expressionless. I remember when I read the book, he might be not bubbly boy, but his expression was rich. He could show you different types of expression. Like if he’s mad, he won’t hesitate to show it immediately.

When I read the book, the main character was the Little Prince. But in the movie ...he’s not the main character although he remains the main concern sih -_-. I just realized that I found the little girl as the main character was annoying. I want to watch the Little Prince. He should be the main character. The dialogues, his traveling from one planet to another place, the chronologies of his traveling ...why I did suddenly get mad. I felt like the little girl ruined the story. Yes, when the little girl inserted to the movie ...it’s her story to find the little prince. I got really pissed when I staring at the ‘grown-up’ little prince. I got mad again. I didn’t recall he ever get grown up in the story. Little Prince, not Mr. Little Prince. I remembered he come back to his asteroid when the story end in the book. But in the movie, why did the little girl whose name I don’t know and her mom stargazing and telescoping the sky? It make the film just so-so. There’s a problem which is the little girl’s problem and her strict but loving mother, and her old-man neighbor, then the the drama to get into school ...

The movie lacks of the dialogues that I love from the book. What’s make the book so astonishing for me is the meaning behind its dialogues from his traveling. He travels from one planet met a drunkard, the other planet met a businessman, king, conceited man, lamplighter, geographer who wrote books but didn't travel, then go to the Earth met a snake, a fox, the flower, and the man ... but the movie missed my favorite part. Instead it played a hero role where the businessman saved the stars for himself to electrify his planet then the little girl tried to make Mr. Little Prince’s sense back. Then, she and Mr. Little Prince freed the stars. It’s very beautiful when the stars burst out from the glass. The way the stars are hanging loose, like we can fish the stars by pulling the thread XD Then somehow Mr. Little Prince became The Little Prince once again when he’s back to his asteroid with the little girl.

I will grow-up, but I won’t ever be a grown-up like you.... said the little girl

It is only with one’s heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye... said the fox to the little prince.

I copy the quote from the book, because I can’t make the sentence from the dialogue in the movie XD My hearing ability is like a deaf woman when that’s come to English TT This quote maybe mentioned three times. I also like this quote.

By the way I like the back sound or the soundtrack. I think one of them is sang in French? The back sound’s like mumbles in pleasant way, but I thinks it’s like Korean song firstly. Do you ever listen to Mocca’s I remember? It has similarity with it. Conclusion :  the movie was good.

This is my first post to submit to English Friday Challenge 35. I know my writing is suck and real plain XD I permit you to be a grammar Nazi  so don't hold back (if you want). I'm too lazy to search the poster of the film or the movie trailer hehehe google it on your own ya ^^
