Hi!

今日は2018年に読んだ本を記録。毎年、Goodreadsというアプリを使って1年に何冊読むか設定するんだけど、去年の目標は12冊。1冊だけ漫画だけど、エンターテイメントではなかったので12冊として数えたよ(笑) もしGoodreadsをやっていたら友達になってください〜！英語圏では不自由なく生きていけるけれど、一番苦手なリーディングがまだまだだなあ、と感じるので勉強しようと諦めずに本を読み続けてるよ。

Today, I'm gonna look back the books I read in 2018. Every year, I set a goal on Goodreads. I decided to read 12 books in 2018 and I achieved my goal! I was never a bookworm so I'm a very slow reader. However, it helps me a lot to write in English so I'm continuing reading as a part of my studying English.

スティーグ・ラーソンの三部作、ミレニアムシリーズ。1冊目はルーニー・マーラが主演で映画化もされたもの。スリラーやミステリー、が好きと気づいてから初めて手にとった本で、めちゃくちゃ大好き！星5つ！っていうくらい、大満足なシリーズ。そして何よりも主人公のリスベット・サランデルは、フィクション作品に登場するキャラクターの中で一番好き。彼も本を読み始めて、今ちょうどこのシリーズの3作目を読んでいるところ。1作目は、最初だけ、お話に張り込むのに少し時間がかかるけど、一度、手に取ったら止まらない、次が気になって仕方ない作品。残念ながら、著者は50歳という若さでこの小説が出版される前に心臓発作で死去しているので、次作がないのが本当に残念。

Stieg Larsson's Millennium series. First novel became a film with Rooney Mara. In 2017, I learned that I love thriller, mystery, and crime fiction so I decided to give it a try on this series first. And I LOVED IT. Every book has a topic that they chase and figure out. It was a bit hard to get into the story on the first one, but once I got into it, I couldn't stop reading! I absolutely love this series and one of the main characters, Lizbeth became my favorite fictional character. Unfortunately, the author died with heart attack at age of 50 before the series were published so we won't be able to read anymore of his work :(


4. Flux by Orion Carloto

英語のみ。私の大好きなインフルエンサー・YouTuberの一人でもあるOrionの処女作。ポエムや日記の切れ端など、恋愛をメインに感情がむき出しとなっている一冊。ダークだったり甘かったり、どこか切なくてパーっと一気に読んじゃった。

It's one of my favourite influencer / YouTuber, Orion's debut collection of poetry. It's so emotional, dark, sweet and sentimental book. It made me think of past relationships and I think many of people could related to her words. This was a quick read!


5. Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman
『君の名前で僕を呼んで』– アンドレ・アシマン

映画を3度観て、やっぱり読まなくちゃと思って手にとった一冊。映画とはストーリーが違う部分もあって、原作と映画は別に楽しめるものだったけど、やっぱりお父さんの最後の言葉にぐっと心を奪われる。そしてElioの頭の中が映画よりもクリアに見えるかも。大好きな映画ととても大切な一冊。

I had to read this after watching the film for three times. This book was just beautiful in a little different way from the film. And some of the parts were different and I enjoyed both the film and the book. The book was easier to feel Elio's mind. This book and film is something special to me. I'd definitely go back and read it again like I'd watch the film again and again.


6. Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson by Mitch Albom
『モリー先生との火曜日』– ミッチ・アルボム

この作品は、実話で著者が死を予告されているモリー先生との会話を記録したもの。愛があって、深くて、人生を振り返って考え直してしまう一冊。モリー先生の言葉で気持ちがふわっとなることも。この本を読んでる途中に2回くらい涙してしまった。

It's a true story about the author visiting Morrie who's facing a death. And the author shares the wisdom words from Morrie on the book. It filled with love and kindness. This book made my heart warm, made me think about my life and made me cry twice.


7. Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami
『海辺のカフカ』– 村上春樹
★★★★★
『ノルウェーの森』を日本語と英語どちらでも読んでからの村上春樹2作目。やっぱり好き！と思いながら読んでた1冊。カフカも好きだけど、ナカタさんも好き。レビューというか内容はうまく説明できないけど、一度は読んでほしい1冊。

I read Norwegian Wood in both English and Japanese, and I had to try his different book so I picked up this! And as I read through, I was thinking "I love this guy." I love the stories, characters and everything in there. I like Kafka but I love Mr. Nakata. I'd definitely recommend this book to everyone.


8. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
『夜のサーカス』– エリン・モーゲンスターン
★★★☆☆
彼の妹は、小さい図書館か！ってくらい本を持ってるんだけど、彼の妹の大好きな本ということで読んでみた本。ファンタジー・ラブストーリーなんだけど、少しダークでわくわくドキドキする作品。著者のサーカスの表現の仕方やキャラクターの一人一人が美しく表現されていて、タロット占い師に影響されて、タロットカードを学ぼうと、思わずデッキを買ってしまった作品。

My boyfriend's sister, Tess has a room filled with a ton of books and it looks like a little library. This is one of her favorite books and she recommended me to read. This is fantasy / love story, and that's something I won't read but I enjoyed this book a lot! And every character and the impression of the circus are so beautiful and lovely. There's a tarot reader and she inspired me to learn tarot so I bought myself a deck haha If you're big lover of fantasy novels, this is a must read!


9. 『うつヌケ うつトンネルを抜けた人たち』– 田中圭一
★★★★☆
これは私のセラピストにおすすめしてもらった一冊。唯一、日本語で読んだもので、小説ではなく漫画。著者の実際の体験や同じように鬱に苦しんだ・苦しんでいる人たちの実体験。「セルフラブ」「自分のことを愛そう」「ありのままの自分を受け入れよう」っていうようなフレーズを最近どこでもみるけれど、鬱の原因の一つはこれ。人それぞれ、鬱になる原因も抜け出す要因もバラバラ。そのぐるぐる回る鬱から抜け出した人たちのストーリーが詰め込まれてる一冊。

Available in Japanese. This was a comic book that my therapist suggested me to read. It's about people who got out of their depression. Every people has a different cause to be depressed and this book shares a few people's stories of how they became depressed and how they got out of it. It made me feel A LOT better. And it's comic book so it was a easy read.


10. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
『侍女の物語』– マーガレット・アトウッド

Huluで実写シリーズ化もされている話題作。フェミニストにおすすめな一冊としても、注目を浴びている。常に緊張感があって、もし本当に未来がこうなったら？という恐怖や人間のダークな部分がひしひしと伝わってくる。未来のことを書いているのに、昔のことを読んでいるような気分にもなる。セリフ・会話が少ない一冊でもある。

I feel like there are more people who know about this book than people who don't know. Now, it's TV series on Hulu too! (I'm scared to watch it, to be honest.) While I was reading it, I was tensed whole time and imagining, "What if our future is actually going to be like this!?" The darkness on human is real and it scares me to think about the story over and over again. It's a feminist read too, if you're interested in. Also, the weirdest thing about this book is, it's about future but all sounds really old story just because the way the main character narrates the story. This book has a minimum dialogue too.


11. The Vegetarian by Han Kang
『菜食主義者』– ハン・ガン

3人の目を通して語られる連作小説集。ものすごくダークで家族、結婚、人生やメンタルヘルスなど、様々な問題が取り上げられている。読んでいて目を閉じたくなる部分もあれば、ハラハラドキドキしてしまうような部分もあって、何が正解で間違っているのか困惑する。複雑なストーリー。

This is a South Korean three-part drama novella written by Han Kang. (Wikipedia) It talks about family, marriage, life, and mental health but not directly. This novella actually confused me and felt weird thinking about every story. Some parts I wanted to close my eyes and some parts made my heartbeats fast.  And I wasn't sure what's right and wrong about the story, and which character I feel close to.


12. The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur
★★★★☆
英語のみ。彼女の処女作、『ミルクとはちみつ』は日本語版になっているので、そのうちこの作品も日本語版になるであろう一冊。『ミルクとはちみつ』が大好きで、ずっと楽しみにしていた彼女の2冊目。女性として生きていく上で、想うこと、感じることがそのまま溢れてる。1冊目と違って、2冊目は移民についても書いていて、彼女の過去、人生をもう少し知れる。

Yes, Rupi Kaur. I loved her first book, milk and honey, so I had to get the second book. I loved this one as well. Just a few parts were off to me but the most of the poetry was just so beautiful. And I love the fact that she talked about the immigration. As a woman, I've always experienced similar feelings with her.
