When in Edmonton

Tags: edmonton

Edmonton is the oil city and capital of Alberta. When in Edmonton, there isn’t much to do. It was cold and kind of felt like back home in Sunderland. This city remind me what reality is like. For me, there isn’t much sense of optimism. A lot people in downtown have blue collar jobs. The best paid jobs are oil and construction.  The urban infrastructure is old and dirty. I can see why the city is nicknamed “Deadmonton”. On the surface, it doesn’t seem much, but the people in general are quite friendly.

This city is quite slow paced. It’s not a tourist city, so I get to feel like a local.

I had a chance to check out University of Alberta. The campus is pretty nice. It’s like its own microcosm outside of downtown.

During the 2 weeks I was there, I got to finish off my freelance project and also chilled a bit. The leaves had already turned orange, so I was kind of in autumn mood. It’s the feeling that summer is over. My travels aren’t over until I return to UK.
