Folk Music: Ceilidh Against the Cuts

A couple of weeks ago, a group I am involved with organised a very special event, a 'ceilidh against the cuts'. We are Durham People's Assembly Against Austerity, and we want to highlight the negative consequences of Welfare Reform in Durham in a positive and creative way.

We started our campaign through a ceilidh, to dance, drink tea and have some cake, and most importantly, have a chance to discuss Welfare reform in a non-party political context. It was a great success, so many people donated their time and talents to make the day a success, and I was overjoyed with the end result, which was a fun and energetic ceilidh on an unexpectedly snowy day shortly before Christmas!
