financial errors

Every time I make a Financial whoopsie, I get really angry at myself, then I get really angry at the financial institutions that try so hard to squeeze every last penny out of us, and then I remind myself that no one in this world is going to encourage you to be financially literate (as they want to make $$$ off you), so you have to learn from these mistakes and make yourself better.

I am trying to close my Irish Bank account because Bank of Ireland now charge you an arm and a leg for the simple privilege of having an account. I also have a credit card with them. It's been literal weeks of back and forth emails, hand written letters to the bank, and, inevitably, me making payment after payment for things I shouldn't be obliged to pay, such as the 'stamp duty' of €30 I 'owe' despite it being only two months into the year. I know they could waive this fee if they wanted, but they choose not to, so I must fork out even more money to make the payment from my UK bank account.

Please, be mindful of your financial decisions. Think about what accounts you have, how much they cost you, foreign charges, overdaft fees, etc. etc. etc. Because no one is going to do that work for you, and it's your money that gets wasted.

This is Amy: learning the hard way, one day at a time.
