Bohemian Me-Making DIY Rosewater

So yes, I make this Rosewater quite a bit.  A lot of what I make is from nature for my skin.  I have made rosewater since I was in high school because yes my grandmother showed me how with roses from her garden in Pennsylvania. It's really easy to make and has a ton of uses. I take it with me camping in the heat of summer, tucked nicely in my cooler! I use it for many reasons.

Rosewater has natural cleansing properties and carries with it a pleasant aroma. People have been using rosewater to treat different kinds of skin problems, and because of its many skin benefits, it is often found as an ingredient in some skincare products sold in the market today. It has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. And most of all, it doesn't produce any kind of irritation in the skin.

Things you will need:

One cup of clean rose petals

Distilled water

Glass jar with cover

Glass bowl

Sauce pan with lid

Strainer

Step 1

Gather all ingredients you will need in order to create rose water. Rose petals should be free from any form of chemicals. You can check out roses online so you can have them delivered right to your doorstep or try a flower shop near you. If you are not confident that they are chemical free, you can wash them with cool water. You will need enough petals to fill 1 bowl or 1 cup.

Step 2

Boil 2 cups of Distilled water in sauce pan. Add in the bowl of rose petals, scatter them and make sure that they are evenly distributed.

Step 3

Cover your pan with a lid, the heat should be set to "low". Do not bring it to a boil, for too much of it will destroy the color and lose its essential properties. Once you see that the petals turn pale and the liquid turns pink, you can already remove it from heat.

Step 4

Separate the petals from the liquid using the strainer and pour the rose water into the glass jar you've prepared. Cover you glass jar to avoid any harmful substances from getting mixed in it.

Voila! You have finished creating your very own rose water. You can store it in your refrigerator to maintain its freshness. Even with the help of the cold storage, its expiry date is only until a week. Make sure to use it within that time span.

After you have created rose water, you have to know where else can you use it. Here are 7 of its common uses:

Treatment for Damaged Hair - Apply to wet hair and scalp. Massage for 10 minutes, shampoo, and then rinse.

Hair Conditioner - After the final rinse, apply and leave on 1 cup of rose water to your hair. It will leave hair strands shiny and well-conditioned.

Shampoo - You can dilute any shampoo using rose water and apply on your hair as usual then rinse.

Reduces Pimples - Mix rose water with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Apply this on your face and leave on for 25 minutes. Rinse off with water. This is an effective beauty regimen for those who have pimples and acne.

Makeup Remover - Mix a few drops of coconut oil with rose water. Dab cotton into the mixture and use it to wipe off cosmetics on your face. It will work wonders by nourishing the skin.

Reduces Excess Oil - This is good for people who have an oily skin. Mix Fuller's Earth with rose water until you make a smooth paste. Apply the mixture on your face, leave on for 20 minutes, and then wash off. Do this twice or thrice a week to control excess oil.

Reduces Puffy Eyes - Soak cotton pad in cold or chilled rose water and apply it on your tired eyes. It will help reduce the inflammation.
