Sweden’s new and supposedly improved government

Today was a sad day in Sweden, and for Swedish politics. As expected the Moderate Party leader Ulf Kristersson was chosen as the new Prime Minister, but he was only able to do so after negotiations, compromises and agreements with the Sweden Democrats. As you may or may not remember, since September 11 the Moderate party is no longer Sweden’s second largest party. After the election it was clear that over 20 % of Swedish voters choose to place their vote on the Sweden Democrats which is a racist right wing extremist party. Fortunately the Sweden Democrats party leader was not chosen as the new Prime minister. If any other political party had gotten over 20 % of votes, they would naturally have wanted the Prime Minister post.

Another politician so eager for more power was the leader of the Christian Democrats which interestingly is a young woman. She is not only the new Minister of Economic Affairs and also the new Vice Prime Minister. I’ve never trusted Kristersson who is a turncoat in my eyes, he promised a Holocaust survivor never to let the Sweden Democrats gain political influence and power in Sweden over Swedish politics and what happens when over 20% of voters wants exactly that?

And regarding the Minister of Economic Affairs, I know that you might expect me to say I support her. But I don’t, she’s a woman but I don’t like her as a person or a politician. From now on I will refer to her as Minister of Economic Affairs not as Vice Prime Minister.

Besides the Economic Affairs post they also got 5 other posts. Mainly Social, Civil, Infrastructure and housing & Minister of Rural Affairs.

The Sweden Democrats agreed to support a government with Kristersson as the Prime Minister but their support was not for free. To me it seems like Sweden now a marionette government were the actual leader is the Sweden Democrats party leader, although officially on paper the new Prime Minister is Kristersson.

I did however, like the exiting party leader of the Center party, as a woman, a person and a politician. Politics is a dangerous career especially now and for the last four years. If you start to fear for your own safety is one thing, that’s expected. When you also start to be concerned if the safety if your family and children that’s when it’s gone too far.

The fairly new leader of the Liberal party is someone I consider as the loser in the new political agreement. I think he could have gotten more political influence as it is now the Liberal party only got influence over education not much else. Yes, even though 6 minister posts.

And the Second Vice Speaker tried to change her party’s political views on circumcision afraid that her party would be seen as being antisemite.

A few days ago another female Sweden Democrats stated that she believed Anne Frank was nothing special instead she thought she was a horny teenager. It’s one thing to have opinions and beliefs and another to share them or voice them in public.

What’s remarkable is that yes, there’s now a Minister for Elders but she’s 44 I doubt she will be able do her job properly because of lack of life experience.

I doubt Sweden will become a better country during these next dour years. I am highly sceptical that the Moderate party leader and Prime Minister will be able to fulfill all the political promises he made. I believe he wants to solve them, but I don’t think he has the right solution. I believe it’s more complex and thus require another more broad solution.
