Grow some balls

Nope.
Warning: This is just a rant post. If you wish to continue or give me some advice just read along...

Opening Scenario:

It's a beautiful day! Looking forward to a fruitful day at the office.
You went in, fixed yourself up. Open your email for the days work. Everything seems fine, when suddenly an Emergency situation occurred. Lights are out. A power failure. Self composed, you look for your emergency kit. Ask everyone if they are okay, while you wait for the emergency power to kick in.

Still dark. A minute or two have past. Still no back-up generator.

Worried. You tried to know the root cause of the problem, not everyone is as concerned as you. This makes you uneasy. You did your part, ask around, called the maintenance staff, even though it's not part of your job description. It's just an innate response that you just have to do it. Somehow to fulfill that sense of urgency that's boiling up inside you.

Long story short. You did something that is beyond your call of duty, that would not only benefit you, but your colleague as well.

Insert Character:

All is well, but there is a pang in the back of your mind, about a certain Character that made you feel uneasy. This character, during the "emergency situation" didn't care much unlike the others. The situation bought a chance for everyone to stand up and do "something" to help one another.

However, this character don't have the balls.

I really hate people that don't have a principle, people that don't own up to something.
I find it really annoying, specially when they influence others.

A matter of choice:
We are all part of the system we created, we are like gears that work together to make the clock move. If one gear is rusty and unfit, the system would fail.
I trust this individual so much, we even shared our darkest secret to one another, and yet, when it comes to his choices, it really disappoints me, thinking that "Hey!" I thought that we are on the same boat. I thought we are in this together and yet you abandoned the sinking ship, just to save yourself. I felt betrayed.
This really affected me, I don't really have a lot of friends. I considered him one of my closest pals.

Reality check:

Have I talked to this individual about this? I think that was my mistake. Call it pride, at this point I don't really care.

I stood up for what is right. Even though I knew that my head will be at stake. I stood up for people I believed in. Even though they didn't believe in me.

At the end of the day, I felt better about my decision. I can sleep well knowing I did my part in helping fixing a broken clock.

Cheers!
