With Crown access not possible, the next best thing was Liberty's Pedestal access. Rerouting to New Jersey just to gain entry to the pedestal, we finally arrived at Liberty Island.

The island was small, small enough that even with picture stops, you can circle the entire island in half an hour. You have a great view of the Manhattan skyline from the island and an up-close view of Lady Liberty.

Before going up the stairs to the Pedestal or the Crown, you can pass by the museum and check-out the rich history of the statue.

The pedestal was quite high and took a lot of steps to reach.
The Crown was much higher and I'm a bit relieved that we wouldn't have to climb hundreds of steps more.
You can only access the outside of the Pedestal area after going down.

After snapping a few more photos and spending a few more minutes admiring the statue, we headed to the ferry this time bound to Battery Park in New York.
Even if you rode from New Jersey, you can take any ferry to your desired destination be it back to Liberty State Park or to Manhattan. |

Before heading to Battery Park the ferry stopped by Ellis Island.
Ferries departing New Jersey travel NJ-Ellis Island-Liberty Island-NJ while from New York its Battery Park-Liberty Island-Ellis Island-Battery Park. This time we decided to hop-off and explore the museum.
Glad we did.
