"Was it that I was defensive or the words you said were just offensive? Was it that I was damaged or..."

“Was it that I was defensive or the words you said were just offensive?
Was it that I was damaged or your assumptions just erroneous? Was it that I had to be perfect or that you just couldn’t see my humanity?
Was it that I didn’t have a purpose or that you just couldn’t see my divinity? Was it that I was a loner or just comfortable being with me? Was it that I was a failure or your expectations just unrealistic? Was it that I was different or that you just couldn’t think outside the box? Was it that there was ever anything wrong at all and I was already enough? Was it that I couldn’t fit into your mould or that you just couldn’t appreciate diversity? Was it that I was difficult or that you just couldn’t accept me? Was it that I didn’t look good or that you just had an ideal image in your head of how a woman should be? Was it that I ever had to really take the words people said so personally? Was it that I ever had to let people decide the course of my reality? Was it that I ever had to allow people to hold me back from truly being free? Was it ever your place to try and stop me from being what I was just born to be?… Society.”
