Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) are proud to announce their 20th Anniversary Special season.
The celebration will commence with a Gala Concert on Friday, 17 August 2018 (exactly 20 years since the MPO’s inaugural performance on the same date in 1998) and Saturday, 18 August 2018 at 8.30 pm. The MPO will be led by the eminent Jac van Steen to present an exciting programme comprises the whirlwind-paced Smetana’s Bartered Bride Overture and the Arabian-flavoured Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade.
Gifted Malaysian pianist Tengku Irfan, born in the same year with the MPO, will dazzle the audience with his magic fingers through Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1.
This will be followed by an MPO’s presentation of soaring melodies by Brahms and Beethoven on Saturday, 25 August 2018 at 8.30 pm and Sunday, 26 August 2018 at 3.00 pm. Renowned conductor Eiji Oue will weave his magic on the orchestra in these concerts which will feature violinist Soyoung Yoon and cellist István Várdai.
