Bangor University – Welcome Week Experience

Ten year dream to pursue studies abroad came true on 13th September 2017 after I landed up in Manchester airport. Bustling airport witnessed something different at the arrival and immigration. Students from different parts of the globe queued up at the immigration section with their CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies) and I was one among them. A bunch of international ambassadors from Bangor University gathered up near the end of the arrival section to greet and take us up to the university.

Powish hall – Day 1 started with free breakfast

The very first day after arrival student ambassadors of Bangor University took new students around the Bangor and made us feel at home. Students ambassadors primarily focused on where to go for shopping, showed up landmarks, told us what to buy and what not to buy and many more. Ambassadors are informative, energetic, enthusiastic in tell stories about their studies at Bangor university.

PJ Hall

Next day of the welcome week started at PJ Hall of Main Arts Building. The best part of it is you get free breakfast especially with Welsh cake (they are so tasty).  Bangor university international student support officer Alan welcomed students from 80 different countries. Alan spoke for just around 30 – 40 minutes and let everyone know about how to settle up properly in the university. On the same day we were allowed to register with the doctor , came to know about different societies, and exposure to different buildings and city got covered up by the treasure hunt(in which my team won 2nd prize).

Just queuing up for the registration – stood up for around 2.5 hours.

Some walking tours were arranged by the university to show up some exotic places around. We went to marina pier – it is a bridge that gets half way down on sea which separate Anglesey from Bangor.

On Friday, we went on to register ourselves with the university and got the Student ID card. All the systems and networks were kept to complete the process as soon as possible by the staff members. On the same day a small meeting with the department people were arranged with free lunch(which I badly missed it). And the next two days were completely free.

On Monday, I signed up for the induction program at the Gym. I was awestruck when I had a look a the gym, it has all the courts and equipment needed to do exercise and sports. In the evening I joined up with the psychology group meet at the Bar Uno and attended the psychology quiz. It was quite interesting to participate in the quiz and make new friends.

Meeting new friends at Bar Uno.

Tower game at the Wheldon building.

Tuesday was quite free. In the evening I spent some time with the department games meet. It was engaging, played tower blocks and twister games. :). Tomorrow, it is gonna be more formal meeting with the department Professors. Cya next week pals.
