I sometimes miss my interior design background (it does not feel right to say interior design days because its been so long ago, I am talking here about 2 decades) and I wonder what my life could have been if I stayed in this field. Would I have been successful? I have no regrets though moving into the Information Technology industry. People sometimes think I am a techie, NOPE I am not—I do not sit in front of a computer for a living nor can program a simple code. I am on the business side thus I sit in front of customers most of the time. I do all sorts of stuff from sales to account management, business development and strategy, a far cry from the design world that I have come to know and studied many moons ago.
Having said that interior design will always have a very soft and special spot in my heart. Which is the reason why I go crazy during my travels photographing (and appreciating) the beautiful old buildings and interiors I come across with.

When I went to the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam (this is the museum after Van Gogh on van Baerlestraat), I was ecstatic when I found out that they have an exposition of award-winning Dutch Interior Designer, Marcel Wander’s famous works!
Anyone in the interior design world knows Marcel Wanders. He has been dubbed as the Lady Gaga of Design by the New York Times. His ingenuity, forward thinking, challenging the status quo and gothic choice of colours and designs has helped him set a mark on the competitive landscape of the design world. His works are mostly found in luxury hotels around the world but he came to worldwide recognition for his KNOTTED CHAIR creation in the mid 1990's which is a genius work of combining high tech materials and low tech production methods.
When you enter the exhibit you will be faced with a choice of going through the Black (turn left) or White (turn right) sections of the exhibits. Of course I chose black, its one of my favourite colours, hence the black background of this blog as well =)
Not many designers and artists who are still living get to be honoured in a museum exhibit like this.
If you are in Amsterdam and are into interior design, catch the exhibit at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam on the Museumplein until the 15th of June 2014.
Visit Period: March 2014
Destination: Amsterdam Centrum (North Holland), The Netherlands
