M10 show week # 94

You know somethin'?  Yer a big idjit!

I know, right?  That Wee Mac DID make me do a month early, like I feared- but it wasn't the feature week, it was that whole "counting down to Christmas thing!"

I wouln'ta even known if'n the letter ya sent didn't make the legal beagle laugh so hard...

It was just a bad night.  Be that as it may, how's the party coming?

God awful.  My first thought was a sumo wrasslin' party with Jelly Roll an' Talk... but they wasn't innersted.  Then I thought mebbe I could get Buck Meek ta do a "haunted Christmas" thing, no go there, either.  I ain't licked yet... but it's gettin' close.

Well, don't feel too bad.  I'll help us figure out something.  Meantime, we are in 1975, with all the right numbers this time- just one little problem, which I'll get to with the feature.  In the meantime, enjoy one of two songs entering the 10 for the first time.  First off, Juliana Hatfield is a big ELO fan- so big she came out with a new lp, Juliana Hatfield sings ELO.  We might still see the first one that floated around the bottom 15- but this one comes in the ten at #9...

Song was good... kinda cheaped on the video, though...

My guess is, on the high side, maybe one out of ten videos actually help the song.  Did you enjoy the Bob Evans tonight?

OHHH yeah... I feel a fat comin' on...

Yeah, Laurie fronted us for it, and she got a bargain!  They not only gave us the sides I ordered- but the sides I ordered last time for free!  Man, I need a nap!  Anyway, here's the thing on the feature- we are in 1975, my musical wheelhouse, and this might have been the greatest week of my entire life!  Even leaving out some songs I would normally have on a Song I Wouldn't Turn Off feature, I ended up with NINETEEN songs!  I managed to cut that to ten, then to six... and finally the three for this week.

First, though, our outside-the-USA friends' number ones!  Now Canada was officially going by the RPM magazine chart at this point; trouble was, they apparently did not PUBLISH the first three weeks of November for some unknown reason (NOTE:  I have now discovered that Canada's postal workers were on strike- the various stations sent their charts to RPM by mail, so...).  However, I still have my access to the CHUM archives (which we use anyway for every year before RPM kicked off in '64) and they had our #2 this week- Neil Sedaka's Bad Blood- at the top.  Australia was in the grip of the ABBA invasion, and Mama Mia was on top- a song which wouldn't start climbing the charts here till next summer, peaking amazingly at #36.   And now, my top three for the week-

Third is that same ABBA with SOS, a song that peaked at the top in Australia, but got a #16 in Canada and only one better here (on Billboard).  It was at #14 on Cashbox this week.

Second was the Bee Gees and Nights On Broadway, a #1 here, #2 in Canada- but an astounding #67 in Australia.  It was resting at #13 this week.

And my top SIWTO this week?

Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds (actually Dennison at this point) and Winners And Losers.  This song, at 86 this week here, was a #21 peak here and in Canada, and didn't chart down south.  So here they are...

***********************************************************

Hey, now we're gonna have ta play two songs inna row!

Yes, and the second is one that tried to sneak away from me, from Alvvays' last lp, Blue Rev.  At #8 this week, Canada's Alvvays!

*******************************************************************

Well, that's it for this week, with no major screw ups!  See ya next time!
