M10 show week # 85

Y'know what really burns me?

What's that, bud?

Three iconic acts- Jimmy Buffet, Gary "Dream Weaver " Wright, and the dude from Smash Mouth-

Steve Harwell...

Yeah- they all join me in the 'not exactly room temp' group this week.

This makes you mad? Why?

B'cuz, dern it, I looked up their record stats, like you do, an' ya know what I found?

That the singles Chart wasn't all that good to them...

Yup.  Three of 'em, an' they have 4 top tens an' 11 top 40's.  ELEVEN.

*** Contest time!  Tell us what those four songs were and win NOTHING!  Answer at the end...***

I know.  But they aren't likely to be forgotten like a lot of acts that had more chart successIn their honor, I'm going to play this one song- a song that I play whenever I lose someone really special; one that reminds me of an old friend every time I hear it.  Take it away, Jimmy...

*********************************************************

They could play that at MY funeral...

That boat's sailed, remember?

Oh, yeah...

So let's get on with the rest of this week's show. I have 2 debuts in the M10 this week; the first is a second hit from Wilco, from a new lp called Cousins.  They come in at #10...

****************************************************************

So, whut year are we on this week- oh wait, I KNOW... 1964...

Yep, but late enough that the whole chart isn't in the Beatles' back pocket. In 1964 this week, though, we do have an interesting story on the top of Australia's chart...

The Beatles had been #1 practically all summer, and at the top this week was  the 2-sided record I Should've Known Better/If I Fell.  Interesting- hey, stop yawning over there!- because while that was how it was released Down Under, here in the States, I Should've Known Better was the b-side of the song at #4 this week- A Hard Day's Night. While the a hit #1, the b only got to 53 here.  In the meantime, If I Fell here was the b-side of And I Love Her, and they were on the chart at #14 and #97 this week.

Anyway, in Canada, they shared our top song this week- The Animals and House Of The Rising Sun.  Which brings us to the Song I Wouldn't Turn Off for this week in '64.  I had a list of 8, which I...

"...which I whittled down to three, and chose the top one, blah blah blah." Gimme that list so's we'll be done sometime before the next dude drops dead.

Third on his list is a #2 in Canada an' #10 in Australia that sits at 41 this week here- Gale Garnett and We'll Sing In The Sunshine.

Second up is a song that was an instant classic hereabouts. Never charted down south, but peaked #2 in Canada, and is at #81 here in week 2 of it's run- J Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers with Last Kiss.

An' the top song he won't turn off?  That would be...

...the Four Seasons an' Rag Doll, which was 20 on the way down here, was a #1 in Canada and a #3 in Australia!

Good job! That leaves me with the second debut, also an act with their second M10 hit- though his was a lot longer ago!  Here at #8 is Børns....

*************************************************************

And now, with the top ten, heeeere's Elvis!

Whatever, man!

9- Fort Wayne's Loveseat! up one with Return...

7- down 2 for the Guess Who and Across The Line...

6- up 2 fer Cole Swindell an' She Had Me At Heads Carolina...

5- down one fer Talk an' A Little Bit Happy...

4- back up 2 ta #4 fer Cafune an' Demise...

An' the top three holds...

Bethany Cosentino's Easy at 3...

Smash Mouth (with their new singer since 2019) an' Underground Sun...

An' still at the top...

...Mikaela Davis an' Southern Star with Far From You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks bud!  That's it for today!

*** Contest Answers- Jimmy hit 8 with Margaritaville; Gary had a pair of #2s with Dream Weaver and Love Is Alive; Smash Mouth hit #4 with All-Star.***
