M10 show week 84

Well, we have made it to the end of the annual Songs of Summer race, and we'll be getting you the results here in a few minutes, along with our other basic features, and...

Elvis: Say boss, does anyone else do a "Songs of Summer" deal?

Sure!  I was just looking at the main contenders, and not surprisingly, none of our songs on their list, none of theirs on mine.  I thought about doing something based on the Cashbox charts here, but I think I did that years back.  Though it is a long weekend here in the states, and I might just throw something together for next week.  Anyhow, we're also doing an M10 show first with a debut for which we will not show a video- and why.  Speaking of which, why not give us that other update I told you about...

What update?

You know, the video update?

Oh, yeah!  Current M10 song Across The Line by the Guess Who just got it's video shot- right here in Fort Wayne!!! An' we'll play it- just as soon as they release it...

Which is kind of similar to this debut I mentioned.  First off- there is a video shot- just not released yet.  Second, the band that debuts at #10 is FROM Fort Wayne!  Unfortunately, the only way to connect you with the song is through a poor-quality video someone shot during a recent gig at the Brass Rail here in town.  If you really want to get an idea of the song, you could watch that video here - but I'd wait until I get my hands on their upcoming actual video.  They are called Loveseat!, and their song is called Return.  In the meantime, just so you don't feel shorted, watch once again, the M10 Song of Summer 2023:

************************************************************************

So, rack up the list, now that you gave away the top one...

Exactly my intend, bud!  Here are the songs that join the now 92-song deep SOS list- everybody that got 30 and up points, 2016 to now, with their rank on the all-time SOS list in parentheses:

1- Hell N Back, Bakar (3)

2- It's Fine, Bethany Cosentino (5)

3- Devastate, Saint Asonia (8)

4- Slow Dance, Geowulf (45)

5- Destroyer, M.A.G.S. (51)

6- Old Man, Albert Hammond Jr (53)

7- Black Magic, Beach House (66)

8- A Little Bit Happy, Talk (75)

9- Far From You, Mikaela Davis (78)

10- Ghost Run Free, Lemon Twigs (82)

11- Positive Charge, Gaslight Anthem (84)

12- Hollywood Baby, 100 gecs (91)

That marks three songs for Geowulf on the all-time list; M.A.G.S. has done it twice, as has Beach House.  None of which match the Jayhawks with songs at #s 6, 14, 16, 33, and 83, but that's a story for another day.

If'n I can innerupt, it's time fer the second debut this week.  Now this here's a song that floated on the Billboard Hot 100 most of the early part of the year, an Chris never quite got around ta playing it, until it came up in conversation with his son KC the other day.  It stopped at 16 on the hot hunnert, lastin' for 36 weeks, and was #1 country too!  At #8, this here's Cole Swindell...

**************************************************

And that brings us to our weekly Song I Wouldn't Turn Off feature for this week in 1965.  The number one was the same in Canada, Australia, and the US- in Canada for the 4th of 8 weeks, 2nd of 3 here.  That song...

Lemme guess... the Beatles...

Yep, the Beatles with Help! In the meantime I found an 8-song list on CB I wouldn't turn off, whittled it to 3, and they are...

Third place goes to the consensus #1, the Beatles and Help!

Second goes to one that wasn't as strong outside the US- peaking at 49 in Australia and 43 in Canada.  It was 34 this week on CB, peaking at #14 some five weeks later- The Animals and We Gotta Get Out Of This Place.

And the top song I wouldn't turn off goes to...

...Barry McGuire's Eve Of Destruction- a soon to be #1 sitting at 5 this week here, a #1 in Canada and #2 in Australia!

King, give with the rest of this week's M10!

Yessir!

9- Jason Aldean's Try That In A Small Town, down 1...

7- Mammoth WVH's It's All Right, holdin'...

6- Cafune's Demise, flippin' spots with...

5- The Guess Who's Across The Line...

4- Down from the top, Talk an' A Little Bit Happy...

3- Bethany Cosentino's Easy, holdin'...

2- Smash Mouth an' Underground Sun, up 2...

An' the new #1....

...Mikaela Davis an' Southern Star with Far From You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nicely done, sir!  That's it for this week, have a great Labor Day Weekend, America, and the rest of you, I guess you'll have to pack a three day weekend into two!
