How to create a fun and functional office corner

This post contains affiliates links. If you click a link and make a purchase it doesn’t cost you any extra, but I might make a few pennies. Then when I have enough pennies I will blow them all on wine and cake.

As part of my 2015 Happy Haven Project, I decided my first order of business should be setting up a little Office in the corner of my bedroom. I have really been missing my big office at the house in Minnesota. All that storage! Two giant desks! I got spoiled with that office. Obviously I can’t recreate that here, but I think I came up with something fun and functional. I really love the way it turned out.

You guys. I even hung all that Stuff up by myself. And it’s level. I feel like I might finally be a grown up or something.

And because I’m so very grown up and wise now (it’s funny because I wore flip flops and pajama pants and no coat to go get Chinese food in 25 degree weather just an hour ago), I figured I’d give out my tips for creating your own fun and Functional Office corner:

Match it to the rest of the room

Especially if you’re in a Tight Space, it makes it so much nicer if it feels like your little Office Space is an extension of the room. I was able to find a chair, a desk, and a set of storage drawers that coordinated great with my comforter and pillows. It makes it feel like the office corner belongs there. Thank you Target and your wonderful coordinating home goods!

Find a desk that fits the space

I spent a long time thinking about how I was going to fit my big long desk in such a tight space before I realized I should probably just get one that fits in there naturally. Hello Captain Obvious!

Get a comfy chair

Seriously, get a chair you really like. Get one you’ll want to sit in while you work.  Get one that won’t make your butt go numb. I know you probably haven’t given it much thought, but I’m certain you prefer a butt you can feel.

Utilize wall space

I hung up a couple of ribbon boards and a cascading file holder that my grandma gave me for Christmas to organize important papers or to hang things up I don’t want to forget about (hi there Kohl’s Cash!).

Keep it simple

You really don’t want to overwhelm your space with too much stuff. Stick with the basics. What do you really need to have within arm’s reach? Keep that stuff there and relocate the rest.

Add personal touches

I hung up a couple pictures of Wyatt and the “joy” sign I ran off with when I saw it sitting in a closet. Good thing my mom doesn’t mind when I steal her stuff.

I think I’m going to have a lot of fun blogging from here for the next year or so. Do you have any tips for creating a fun office space? I’d love to hear them!
