5 Reasons to Train Your Cat

1) More Friendly
Spending one-on-one time with your cat in a positive manner will make them want to be around you. This is especially beneficial if you have a cat that hides or doesn’t like a lot of human interaction. If they see you as a source of treats and fun they’ll want to hang around you.

2) Healthier
If your vet is like mine, she always puts a plug for brushing your pets Teeth. If you’re like most people you may think that involves a cat wrapped like a burrito and bite marks scarring your hands. After getting them use to the toothbrush and purchasing yummy chicken-flavored pet toothpaste my cats sit and allow their teeth to be brushed. I wouldn’t say they enjoy the process but there isn’t any injury to me and the toothpaste gets their approval.

3) Expand Kitty’s World
My cats are indoors only and in the warmer months they’ll often spend hours gazing out the sliding door. Training them to walk on a harness allows them to enjoy the backyard safely with us instead of staying inside their entire lives.

4) Builds Trust
Interacting positively with your cat Builds the trust between you and your furry feline. That in itself is motivation for me.

5) Why Not?
No one questions training a dog but many people give pause when you talk about training your cat. If a dog can learn, why can’t a cat? Yes, cats are usually more independent but I’ve found that only means I might have to cut the training session shorter to keep their interest.
