A Magical Summer Weekend

I was homesick. I’d been away from Searcy and dear friends for less than a week and I was feeling sad. So, due to a long holiday Weekend, I packed a small bag and drove straight back. I slept in my rental home with my roommate, rolled around in my full-size plush bed, and ate popsicles from our freezer.

On Monday we went for a long Bike Ride down our favorite path and stopped for Tropical Smoothie’s on the way. The air was humid (have you ever been to Arkansas) but it smelled like honeysuckle, and we stopped riding to get a little flavor from them.

Tuesday morning before I drove back to Mississippi, we had breakfast at my favorite spot in town.

Leaving always makes me miss it, but it makes a quick weekend visit good. The bike ride is more freeing, the air is sweeter, the coffee at the diner is better, the bacon a tad crispier.

I will never complain about the small town of Searcy, Arkansas ever again. It’s a hidden gem, that place.
