Binatikos ni Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque ang Rappler sa pagpakalat ng pekeng balita tungkol sa kanyang kontrobersyal na pahayag sa Benham Rise. Sinabi ni Spox Roque na ang kalayaan sa pagsasalita at kalayaan ng press ay palagi niyang naging long-time advocacy.

Ang pahayag ni Spox Harry Roque ay lumabas sa isyu ng Philippine Rise o Benham Rise na binanggit ang tagapagsalita ng Palasyo na “the Philippines has no capacity to explore Benham Rise.”

Inakusahan ni Spox Roque ang pahayag ng Rappler bilang “Fake News.” Ipinaliwanag niya na “Sa totoo lang po, itong issue ng Benham Rise nagulat ako, how prestigious publications can really publish fake news kasi malinaw na malinaw na sinabi ko sa tape…” pahayag ni Roque.

Ang tagapagsalita ng Palasyo ay may katiyakan na tinanggihan ang mga istorya na inilunsad ng Rappler at iba pang mainstream media na lumabas sa isyu ng Benham Rise na nagsasabing mayroong dalawang katanungan na tinanong sa kanya sa panahon ng press briefing. Ang una ay ipinaliwanag niya kung bakit ang Tsina ay binigyan ng permiso upang magsagawa ng siyentipikong pag-aaral at ang sumunod ay tinukoy niya na kailangan ng mga dayuhan na makakuha ng permit ngunit maaaring gamitin ng mga Pilipino ang mga mapagkukunan dahil mayroon tayong mga karapatan sa soberanya.

FAKE NEWS ANG RAPPLER AYON KAY ROQUE | Roque mentioned that freedom of the speech and freedom of the press have always been his long-time advocacy. This in light of the issue of the Philippine Rise (Benham Rise) quoting the Palace spokesperson that “the Philippines has no capacity to explore Benham Rise.”

Secretary Roque branded this as fake news.

The Palace spokesperson categorically denied the stories that came out on the issue of Philippine Rise (Benham Rise) saying that there were two questions asked on him during the press briefing.

He first explained why China was given permit to conduct a scientific study. He then clarified that foreigners need to get permits since the Philippine Rise (Benham Rise) was part of the extended continental shelf.

Only Filipinos, Roque added, could explore and exploit the resources since Filipinos had the sovereign rights.

Secretary Roque reiterated that in journalism, the basic tenet of journalism is dedication to the truth, but nonetheless he allows the free marketplace of ideas.
