The Blonde

Him. A tall Blonde. He caught my attention instantaneously. He was adorable and looked about my age. He found his seat, right in front of me and put his things in the overhead compartment. Before sitting down he smiled at me. I was in a frenzy. Why? Because I had never been attracted to a blonde. This was completely new to me. Blondes were never a place of interest to me. But the plane took off, and I waited for him to talk to me. I wondered if he spoke English. Where was he from? After a while, I sat –sort of- disillusioned that he hadn’t initiated a conversation. I sat there. There was a man sitting next to him. He was reading a bible and I heard him close it and turn to my blonde man. He asked him where he was heading. I didn’t catch it. He asked his name. I didn’t catch it. Was he married? I caught it. He wasn’t. He was single. And he spoke English. There was two hours left on the plane. I went to the bathroom to freshen up. When I came back, they were no longer talking and I sat there having a mental battle. I wanted to talk to him but part of my was hesitant and shy. I am NEVER shy. So I pushed myself to do it and tapped his shoulder. He turned around right away, like he had been waiting.

Me: Hi, I was just wondering where you are from?

Him: (with big smile) Oh hi, ya…I am from Finland .

Me: Oh that’s so cool. What do they speak in Finland ? (Mind you, I knew exactly what they spoke in Finland . But I was dumbfounded.)

Him: Finnish. And are you American?

Me: Well yes, but my parents are from Argentina . Actually that’s where I’m headed. Where are you going?

Him: Well I have two weeks off from work, so I am spending some time traveling. I am going to be in Chile for a few days, then going to Argentina , then maybe go to Uruguay , I’m not sure.

Me: That’s amazing. Are you alone?

Him: Yes I always travel alone.

After a few minutes I had found out his name, the fact that he spoke five languages, he was about to finish his masters in Business and he had basically traveled the whole world. We had been talking for a hour along with his buddy- bible man- who was telling us about his life, his wife, his job…it was all very interesting, but I wanted to know more about Mr. Blonde. We were talking and I mentioned to them that I had a twelve hour delay in Chile . I’m not going to lie. I really thought my blonde man was going to offer to hang out with me until my flight left. But he didn’t. The stewardess interrupted our conversation with the usual “Chicken or beef?” question. At that point the conversation took a break while we ate dinner. A bit after, Mr. Blonde turned around and looked at me with his grayish bluish eyes and asked me “Why don’t you come party with me while you wait for plane?” I smiled and said “sure”.
