Top 10 Health & Beauty Essential Oil Recipes for Spring & Summer

Do you need essential oil recipes to help you get through summer and spring? Check out our top 10 essential oil health & beauty recipes for spring & summer.

All of these are easy to make and work great. Do keep in mind, as with any essential oil recipes, that you should always be cautious and safe. So use only pure oils, with no additives or perfumes, and always dilute.

1. Jet Lag Relief

Lots of traveling goes on in the summer time and it is hard to get back into routine right away after having jet lag. A nice, invigorating bath is just what you need.

Pour yourself a warm bath and add the following oils to one cup of epsom salts, then add those to the bath water and soak:

  • 7 drops lavender oil
  • 5 drops rosemary oil
  • 3 drops lemongrass oil

Rinse off with fresh water after your soak to help get rid of the toxins, and you will feel much more refreshed.

2. Sunburn Relief Spray

Combine the following ingredients in a 12 oz. glass spray bottle:

  • 1 cup aloe vera juice
  • 1/3 cup fractionated coconut oil (jojoba oil works well too)
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • 8 drops tea tree oil
  • 5 drops roman chamomile oil

Shake all ingredients well to mix and spray on to sunburned skin. Each time you use, just shake well first.

3. Sunscreen

To make your own sunscreen, start by gathering your ingredients:

  • ¾ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup coconut oil (can be regular or fractionated, either one works.)
  • ¼ cup beeswax pastilles
  • 2 tablespoons shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons zinc oxide
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 10 drops helichrysum essential oil
  • 8 drops lavender essential oil
  • 5 drops geranium essential oil

Place all ingredients besides the zinc oxide and essential oils in a double boiler pan. Turn the heat on medium, and stir occasionally until ingredients are melted and there are no lumps left. Remove the pan from heat, allow to cool a bit, then add in the zinc oxide and essential oils and stir.

Transfer your homemade sunscreen into a glass jar and store in cool area.

To use: apply using a few fingertips worth and rub over exposed skin. Reapply every few hours as needed.

4. Cooling Spray

Need to cool down on a hot summer day? This is one of my favorite essential oil recipes for accomplishing that challenge.

Using an 8 ounce glass spray bottle, add in 10 drops peppermint essential oil and 2 drops lavender essential oil. Then add in 2 tablespoons of witch hazel and top off with distilled water. Shake well and spray on arms, legs and back of neck to cool down.

5. Insect Bite Relief

In a 10 ml glass roller bottle, combine the following oils:

  • 10 drops roman chamomile oil
  • 12 drops lavender oil
  • 5 drops peppermint oil
  • 6 drops lemon oil

Top off the roller bottle with your favorite carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil.

Apply the roller ball top and lid and shake well. Add a label and you’re all set. Keep this handy when going outdoors and you will be grateful you did!

6. Spring Garden Insect Repellent

In an 8 ounce glass spray bottle, combine the following oils:

  • 12 drops rosemary oil
  • 10 drops peppermint oil
  • 12 drops thyme oil
  • 8 drops clove oil

Top off your bottle with distilled or filtered water. Put the top on and shake well to blend.

Spray on any areas you want to repel insects. Works well if sprayed along the bottom of your garden plants and on the top of the soil.

7. Bug Repellent Spray

This is one of the most useful essential oil recipes for summer. In an 8 ounce glass spray bottle, combine the following essential oils:

  • 12 drops lemongrass oil
  • 8 drops peppermint oil
  • 10 drops geranium oil
  • 7 drops lavender oil

Top off the spray bottle with fractionated coconut oil or your favorite carrier oil. Shake well to mix.

Use this spray for camping trips and outdoor activities by spraying it on exposed areas of skin. Get the back of the legs and ankles and it works very well.

8. Hand Sanitizer

In a small container, such as a silicone lotion container, combine the following ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons aloe vera gel
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 6 drops clove essential oil
  • 6 drops lemon essential oil
  • 4 drops orange essential oil
  • 6 drops rosemary essential oil

Place top on your silicone bottle and shake well to blend. Squeeze on hands to sanitize.

9. Travel & Motion Sickness Blend

In a 10 ml roller ball bottle, combine the following essential oils:

  • 12 drops fennel oil
  • 10 drops peppermint oil
  • 8 drops orange oil
  • 10 drops ginger oil

Top off with carrier oil and then apply roller top. Shake well to blend.

To use, apply to abdomen and/or over chest. Also, it's great to inhale for relief of nausea, so apply to wrists and inhale from there, or just straight out of the bottle.

10. Anti-Itch Soothing Blend

This natural mixture is great for poison ivy or rashes. Combine these oils in a 10 ml roller bottle:

  • 10 drops roman chamomile
  • 12 drops lavender

Top off the roller bottle with a soothing carrier oil. You can also just layer those oils directly on the rash, or apply them into a lotion you may be using to apply. Reapply as needed.
