30-Day Song Challenge Pt. 1

Tags: song

I have been doing this 30-Day Song Challenge on my Twitter account (idzwan88) and now that I'm on my Easter Break, I thought I'd share the list here.

Day 1 - My Favourite Song: The Fray - How To Save A Life

I first heard this song through my favourite TV show Grey's Anatomy. I love this song not simply on the basis that it's the soundtrack to a TV show that I could relate to because I'm a medical student and as such. I love the song because it talks, or what I perceive it to be, of fallouts in friendship and about regrets of two people not trying hard to make the friendship works.

Day 2 - My Least Favourite Song: Mariah Carey - We Belong Together

I just found this entire song annoying!
Day 3 - A Song That Makes Me Happy: Nat King Cole - L-O-V-E

I first heard this song when I was probably 10 or 11. The song was played during the opening credit of 'Parent Trap' starring the still-innocent, pre-pubescent Lindsay Lohan. The sweet and catchy song always gives me a somewhat warm feeling as it is about two flirtatious people finding love. Isn't that a good thing?

Day 4 - A Song That Makes Me Sad: Mariah Carey - Angels Cry

This song is a total opposite of the previous one. I found it just sad that two people who used to be madly in love with each other had to end the relationship because neither wants to work at it anymore. It's such a shame for people to take for granted the people they love and not appreciate the abundance of love they have in their lives only to regret it later. Yup, I am a sucker for romance!

Day 5 - A Song That Reminds Me Of Someone: Lady Antebellum - Need You Now

This one reminds me of an old crush.

Day 6 - A Song That Reminds Me Of Somewhere: Sudirman - Balik Kampung

This song reminds me of my alma mater, MRSM Beseri. My boarding school was 7-hour bus ride from my hometown. Whenever it's a school holiday and it's time to balik kampung (go back to our respective hometowns), the school would provide chartered buses and we'd all look forward to the trip. Since it was a long journey, we would sing songs or watch movies or exchange horror stories at the back of the bus (the cool people will always seat at the back). One of the song we would always sing was this song so it really reminds of all the good moment I've had at the school, not just the trip.

Day 7 - A Song That Reminds Me Of A Certain Event: Wouldn't It Be Loverly from My Fair Lady

When I was doing my IB diploma, we had this inter-class musical competition as part of our English syllabus and my class was assigned to do My Fair Lady. I was co-director apart from taking part as one of the extras dancing to the song. It was my first time being on stage dancing (or trying to) in front of the entire school. And when our performance was announced as the overall winner for the night, we all ran to the middle of the hall, hugging and congratulating each other, and started singing the song on top of our lungs.
Day 8 - A Song I Know All The Words To: Kelly Clarkson - Because Of You

I'm bad at memorising song lyrics and I tend to replace words that I can't remember with some random words that sound similar to the actual lyrics but this song is one of the few that I actually know word by word.

Day 9 - A Song That I Can Dance To: Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire

I probably wouldn't be able to dance to this song anymore. I chose this song because I had to dance to it in our Malaysian Night back in March we did a pretty good job. Let's just say I've forgotten all the steps now.

Day 10 - A Song That Helps Me Relax: Clementine from Spring Waltz

This song was featured in my favourite Korean TV drama calld Spring Waltz. The original challenge was to find a song that I fall asleep to but I can't think of one so I changed to a song that would help me relax. This version of the classic Clementine is just so relaxing to me.

Day 11 - A Song By My Favourite Band: One Republic - All This Time

This is one of my favourite song from One Republic. Again, songs about two people trying to find love always hits a spot in my heart and in the hands of One Republic, it's bound to be just amazing.

Day 12 - A Favourite Song From A Movie: Bennie And The Jets from 27 Dresses

I first heard this song from the movie 27 dresses starring Katherine Heigl. I'm no big fan of Elton John but I somehow really like this funky song.

Day 13 - A Song That Is A Guilty Pleasure: Rihanna - S&M

Nothing says 'guilty pleasure' more that Rihanna's S&M. Even the music video is a guilty pleasure in itself it is banned in more than 10 countries. As for wether I personally love S&M (sado-masochism, that is), I believe what happens in the dark should remain in the dark =)!
Day 14 - A Song That No One Would Expect Me To Love: Paul Westerberg - Here Comes A Regular

Now, Paul Westerberg and The Replacement really are before my time. The only reason I know the song because it was featured in One Tree Hill.

Day 15 - A Song That Describes Me: Chris Colfer - Defying Gravity

I nust say nothing describes me more than the lyrics of 'Defying Gravity' It's all about breaking free and being true to oneself and nothing is more important than that really.

Well, that's the first fifteen of my 30-Day Song Challenge. I'll post about the remaining fifteen soon. And apparently there are also 30-Day Movie Challenge and 30-Day Book Challenge. I'm definitely doing those. It's good to be in holiday and to have time to do trivial things =P.
