Homemade Honey and Oatmeal Soap…

This year I’ve been trying to get a bit more creative and learning to make my own soap was something I’ve wanted to do for a while so today, I’m sharing my first attempt – Honey and Oatmeal Soap!

I always thought homemade Soap would be too much of a faff for me but a little while ago I was buying some shea butter from Amazon for another project when I came across ‘Melt and Pour Soap Base’ which is amazing!  It’s literally a soap base that comes in cubes which you just need to melt, add your other ingredients and then pour it into your moulds.

I bought my soap moulds for under £2.00 from Amazon but I should point out that the delivery was far from speedy.  I didn’t notice when I ordered them that the delivery was a couple of weeks but to be fair, the ones I bought are a big saving on the ones that are available on Prime or quicker delivery so I probably would have still gone for these ones anyway.

How to make homemade Honey and Oatmeal Soap

Soap Base Mix – mine was about £3.50 for 500g and that made 6 bars of soap.
4 tablespoons of oats
3 tablespoons honey

  • I found the best way of deciding how many cubes to melt for each bar of soap was to pop them in the mould itself.  I only melted enough for two soap bars at a time.

  • I melted my soap in the microwave in a glass jug rather than the bowl over a glass bowl method but I was super careful and checked it every 30 seconds or so.
  • While the soap was melting I sprinkled a few of the oats on the base of two of the soap moulds.  With the rest of the oats, I use my fingers to grind down the rest of the oats as I wanted them to be finer to add into the soap itself.  I just rubbed the oats between my fingers and it took about two minutes to make them look a lot finer than when they started out.

  • Once the melt and pour soap base was fully melted, I poured in the honey and stirred in the bowl of oats.
  • After I’d mixed it all together, I poured the soap mix into the moulds and then left it to set for a couple of hours.

This lovely honey and Oatmeal Soap would make a perfect homemade gift or just a treat for yourself!
