Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {1 December 2017}….

1) Our Alternative Advent calendar is done and ready to be opened tonight when the kids get home from school tonight.  Don’t tell them but today’s envelope says that we’ll be snuggling on the sofa watching Elf together as a family tonight which is one of our family traditions!

2) Look what I got for 20p in Asda last week….

It’s actually two small bunches of 10p flowers that were reduced as they were looking a little sad – they soon perked up though when I got them home and in some water.  They look lovely in my DIY painted vase!

3) Our new little puppy, Monty, arrived this week on Wednesday so we popped to Pets at home to buy him a few bits and bobs that we needed for a puppy and at the checkout the lady suggested that we sign up for one of their VIP cards which gave us 10% off our shopping and a book filled with information about how to look after puppies. There were lots of other vouchers in the puppy book too so for the 30 seconds it took to fill in a form, we saved money and got a great book which Miss Frugal is busily working her way through as she’s determined that this puppy is going to be more obedient than our Buddy is.

Monty and Buddy are getting on well (ish) so far although Buddy’s definitely spending more time than normal on our bed sleeping as Monty can’t get on there on his own yet!

4) Honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about this one but I guess I’ve been unwittingly funding this little venture so it counts as something I’ve done! Master Frugal was given a couple of bags of Halloween sweets left over from my friends at work’s Halloween sweets and it seems that he took them to school to share with his friends but discovered a potential business opportunity.

Turns out that there’s a market for sweets at school so after turning over a good profit on the sweets he was given, he bought a few more.  He also asked me if I would buy him some sweets to ‘share’ with his friends.  He was so pleased with himself when he told me that he’d been making money that I found it hard to tell him off but I really don’t want him selling sweets at school.

5)  I didn’t do much Black Friday shopping but I did agree to Mr Frugal buying a new PlayStation pro which is something that’s been on his wishlist since it came out.  It was his Birthday on Black Friday so he got it as a Christmas/Birthday present and he did get a great deal to be fair.  On top of the deal he got, he sold the two games you get with it for £20 each AND he took his existing PlayStation back to our local computer shop and we traded it in to get even more money back.  He’s over the moon with his new toy and I don’t have to worry about what to get him for Christmas!

**Disclaimer**   I get that spending isn’t that frugal but to me, being frugal is about getting the best deal for the things we want.  We’re lucky that we can afford to buy some treats that I know not everyone can afford.

Don’t forget that my 2018 financial planner was launched yesterday and this year, it’s completely free of charge to download so do pop over and have a look!

As usual, we’ve been having some really good discussions this week over in our Live Well, Spend Less Facebook group.  We’d love to welcome you to our little community if you fancy popping in.

Come over and join us!

As always, we’d love you to join in with us by sharing what frugal and thrifty things you’ve been up to this week – whether it’s an Instagram picture (#5frugalthings), a blog post or even a video.  Just add your link to the linky at the bottom of this post.

You don’t have to share five things you’ve done, anything thrifty or frugal that you’ve been doing is perfect.

You’re more than welcome to copy and paste the badge above but it would be even better if you could let your readers know that you’re linking up with us by adding a little line to the bottom of your post like this one:

I’m linking up with this Cass, Emma and Becky in this week’s ‘Five Fabulously Frugal things I’ve done this week’ linky.
