Every year for the past four or five years we’ve visited the brilliant Festival of Thrift. Here’s what we thought of this year’s festival….

The Festival of Thrift has been held every year for the last four or five years and I’ve been going since the second year it was held so it feels like a bit of an annual event now.  It’s quite a hard event to describe but the Idea behind the festival is that it’s the UK’s first large-scale festival of sustainable living and every year it just seems to be getting bigger and more successful.

It’s such an eclectic mix of stalls, workshops and foodie stands that unless you go yourself you just won’t get how amazing it is!

There’s everything from farmers market style food stalls to stalls filled with clever upcycled clothes, home stuff and craft things and from den building and storytelling for the kids.  There are literally hundreds of stalls spread out over a large area as well as workshops where you can learn new skills like jam or bread making, willow weaving and even metal work.  You can make your own pottery on a potters wheel or have a go at being a blacksmith.

There are huge stands for local charity shops, live music, theatre performances and deck chairs to relax on!

I did buy a few things but I didn’t spend too much money as we’re away next week but I picked up a few things for some projects that I have planned which you’ll see in the next few weeks as well as this little lot below….

The Woman’s Institute magazine was given to me by the lovely WI ladies who were recruiting there and I’m genuinely thinking about going along to the next meeting to see if I like it.  It’s something I considered before but I use to work back on a Wednesday which is when our local meeting is so I never took the idea further.

The fabric was 50p each and I have a vague idea of making some bunting with it although I’m not sure if the patterns clash just a little too much – they looked good when I was there at the stall but now I’m not 100% sure.

The baskets were 20p each and are so cute that I couldn’t not buy them even though I’m not sure yet what I’ll do with them.  I’m sure there’s a homemade gift idea in there somewhere though.

And finally, the paint samples book which looks like a very random buy but really isn’t as I’ve been meaning to head into B&Q to gather as many of these as possible for a couple of crafts I’ve seen on Pinterest.

I treated myself to a cheeky crepe with lemon and sugar on and booked some classes to learn a few new upcycling skills and then came home inspired with about a hundred new ideas!

I can’t wait until next year already!
