Back to school shopping with Sports Direct….

Back to school shopping with Miss Frugal is about as easy as it gets – she knows exactly what she wants and has it planned for months.  Master Frugal, however, is a whole different ball game.

He too knows exactly what he wants but what he has in mind is usually more than I want to pay or else it’s ridiculously impractical.  Back to School shopping last year was a nightmare as he was very nervous about going up to secondary school as he missed the transition at the school he was going to (long story)and he focused all of his nerves onto making sure all his school things were exactly as he wanted them to be.  Frustrating but I understood his reasons.

This year, he’s a much more confident young man and we don’t have too much to buy so I was hoping for an easier ride.  Then I got an email from Sports Direct who offered to make it even easier for us.  They said we could spend some time on their website and choose his school essentials and they would send them to him as a gift.

We started with a coat because that’s the thing we always struggle with.  He hates wearing coats and in the past I’m sure people have thought I don’t look after him properly as he used to leave the house with his coat on and then put it in his bag before he was at the end of the road.  He once wasn’t allowed out at break in junior school as he didn’t have a suitable coat.  He did, it was just in his bag but he didn’t want to wear it!

Anyway, he loved this one as soon as he saw it and I’m pleased to say he liked it even more when it arrived.  It’s warm but not too thick so is the perfect compromise to him.

The sun must have been shining right on his hair on this photo as I haven’t edited it or added a filter and it looks orange!

He’s also wearing some tracksuit bottoms that we were sent in these photos.  He wears the same style Adidas ones most of the time and even though he has about four pairs in different colours, they all look similar.  Honestly, he does change his clothes.

School shoes are my next nightmare with him as he usually wears trainers so he finds school shoes uncomfortable for the most part until they’re well worn in.  Last year we wanted to buy him some Kickers because Mr Frugal has a pair and says they’re the most comfortable smart shoes he’s ever had.  We couldn’t find any he liked last year but looking through the large range on the Sports Direct site, he found these beauties that passed his comfort and design standards. J

A bag and a water bottle were easy to choose for him although he’s been using them for football training so apparently, he needs a different one for school now.  Yeay!

Trainers are his weakness – he loves them in all shapes, sizes and colours and although he isn’t materialistic in any other way, when it comes to trainers it seems that the more expensive the better.  Surprisingly, he managed to find a pair that weren’t extortionate.  To me, all trainers are expensive these days if you want one of the big brands but these were reasonable in comparison to many of the others he likes.  He absolutely loves them and even though they’re white (I told you – super expensive or impractical) we’ve sprayed them with crep and they’re staying clean so far.

So, aside from a new pair of trousers, that’s Master Frugal sorted for back to school now.  It was much easier than last year and I loved getting everything we needed online for him.
