Murder Issue 2 Review – Indie Comic Review

This is a spoiler-free Murder issue 2 review.

About Murder

Murder is written by Matt and Brittany Loisel. The artwork is by Emiliano Correa. The lettering is by Micah Myers. The book was edited by Claire Napier. Murder is published by Collab Creation Studios. It is being released after a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year.

The animals of the world have had enough with factory farming, so much that they begin to develop psychic links with each other. These animals, along with a man named The Butcher’s Butcher, are plotting to overthrow the animal farming industry. Will they be able to save the animals while finding the source of the psychic linking?

Murder Issue 2 Review

Let me start by saying that I love the hip hop references hidden in this book. It was one of my favorite parts of the first book as well. Anyone with respect for indie and underground hip hop is cool in my book. Outside of the main theme of protecting animals, the world of Murder offers readers a rich and complex cultural perspective.

Murder is evolving. Issue one did an excellent job of setting up the plot. Things are getting more serious now. The characters are more developed. The Butcher’s Butcher is extremely menacing when he is on the warpath. There are animals that need to be saved, and nothing is going to get in his way. The team is equipped with new tools, powers, and even some new characters. Without spoiling anything, the plot here is really ramping up.

Issue 2 of Murder introduces a new hero for us to enjoy: The Melanated Melody. She is a fierce fighter with a kind heart. She comes equipped with an Ankh ring that can be used as a radar/scanner. On her back are mechanical arms reminiscent of Dr. Otto Octavious. The Melanated Melody and The Butcher’s Butcher make a great team.

Emiliano Correa’s artwork in Murder Issue 2 is breathtaking. These characters really come to life on the page. Whether it is a peaceful farm setting, or an epic high-action battle, Correa has you covered!

As always, Micah Myers kills it in the lettering department. I especially love the style of the lettering and bubbles when the animals are communicating telepathically. Micah always creates an immersive reading experience.

The fun doesn’t stop at the end of the story! Outside of all of this great comic action, Murder issues 2.0 and 2.1 also have an excellent question and answer section at the end. It is a great resource for finding our more about the humane and inhumane treatment of animals.

Overall, the Loisel, Correa, Myers, and Napier knocked it out of the park with Murder Issue 2! This is one of my favorite comic issues that I have read this year. The entire team comes together to craft a fluid and immersive story. Regardless of how this sounds, I need more Murder in my life!
