Broke Down & 4 Dead Bodies Review – Indie Comic Review

Sometimes life can throw a curve ball at you. Bad things happen to you and those you love. Opportunities end not being as fulfilling as you would like them to be. Don’t get me wrong, good things happen all the time as well. Life would not be interesting without the ebbs and flows of luck and circumstance. However, when I am feeling down on my luck I like to remind myself that things could be worse. At least I am not stuck on the side of the road with a pile of corpses.

Brown Down & 4 Dead Bodies Review

Broke Down and Four Dead Bodies is written by Travis Gibb. The art is by Felix Novaro with coloring my James Sims. The cover of the first issue was done by Karl Moline. The lettering is done by Jerome Gagnon. There is currently one issue of the comic which premiered on December 5th, 2018. The book is published by Orange Cone Productions. Broke Down and Four Dead Bodies is a crime drama revolving around two gangsters down on their luck.

Randy and Denver are low-ranking officials in their organized crime syndicate. When a big job comes their way, the duo takes the opportunity to rise through the ranks. However, their plans for success are thwarted when they realize they have been double-crossed. Now they are, as the title suggests, broken down on the side of road with four dead bodies.

I knew I was in good hands when the characters were quoting Pulp Fiction in the first few pages. The story does have a Tarantino-feel to it. The team did an excellent job of making sure this issue was action packed and full of suspense.

I really enjoyed the witty dialogue in Broke Down and Four Dead Bodies. Every great crime story has a bit of chop-busting in it, and this book is no exception. The characters felt very smart and realistic. The action and mayhem was broken up by well-timed jokes and banter.

The art team for Broke Down and Four Dead Bodies do a few interesting things with this book. The initial scene of this issue is a flashback. The entire background of the scene is in black and white. The only color in the scene comes from the two characters. I thought this was a great touch that helps tell the story better. This book also has a great style in terms of overlapping panels and perspective angles.

I think this series is off to a great start. The characters really seem to have backed themselves into a corner. I have no idea how they will get out of this mess. That said, I can’t wait to find out! Make sure to keep an eye out for the Kickstarter for issue two.
