The Director-General of the Federal Industrial Research Oshodi, FIIRO, Professor Gloria Elemo, has decried the continuous exportation of raw materials.
Professor Elemo, who was speaking at the inauguration of 64 inductees into the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering, said the practice was responsible for the underdevelopment of the country.
She stated that the country might remain underdeveloped until “it starts to export finished products”.
Professor Elemo assured technologists of the FIIRO’s support and urged members of the association to continue to perform well in their places of work.
She commended the association on the fabrication of Rice Machines last year.
In his remarks, the General Manager of Bond FM, Ikeja, Engineer Bamidele Dada, advised young technologists to always seek knowledge and conduct more research in their establishments.
Engineer Dada described the fabrication of the rice machines by the association as a milestone achievement.
He said most of “the materials being used in Bond FM for developmental work today are locally sourced”.
Earlier, a former National Secretary of the association, Engineer Samuel Oliyide, said “the level of the development of a country depends on the level of its technological development”.
He said the country was at its present level of development because of the neglect of technology.
Engineer Oliyide advised the government at all levels to make more funds available for research in the country.
