A letter of apology…

Ever since I was a kid,  I have been Taught treating everyone the same way.  I have been taught not to be judgemental,  to have an open mind and wish for a prejudice free world.
Sadly enough, not everyone practices what they preach

I have seen people who talk about abolishing discrimination one day and choosing a white girl over a dusky one the other day.

The catch here is…

Not everyone is a hypocrite, not everyone wants to do that, and sometimes it’s way too hard to practice certain things. Sometimes it’s too hard to go against the Society and it’s norms. That is why I don’t blame anyone, moreover who I am to accuse anyone if I have failed miserably in this myself.

Yes,  I confess. I have judged people, I have made mistakes , and I have been judgemental

I have seen people Judging girls much more than boys, and perhaps that is what I have learnt. The society has taught me to judge and also not to, and  it’s high time that I choose what I want to learn ,  and I have made a choice.
Therefore today,I want to apologize.

Not because I want to throw in some big words such as feminism, empowerment, feminist,  girl power, and all of that ; but because I genuinely want to apologize.

Because I owe you one. Therefore –

I apologize ….

For the time I decided to shun you because you dated too many boys.

For the time, a group of boys called you a whore and I kept my mouth shut.

For the time I gave you that look saying “aren’t those shorts too short?  ” .

For the time I thought you put on too much makeup.

For the time I thought if only you were a little more petite /chubby /fairer /duskier /acne free or whatsoever.

For the time I thought you are getting married too early or too late.

For the time, I called you a geek,  or just a pretty face .  You are so much more than that.

For the time I felt awkward hearing that you don’t want to have kids. I am sorry, it does not make you a bad person.

For the time I told you not to swear because that’s very unladylike. It’s completely your choice.

For the time  I believed in a rumour without bothering to ask.

For the time I called you a girly girl or a tomboy.  You don’t need to fit into any stereotypes.

For the time I stopped you from fixing the pump or the car tyre because women and machinery don‘t mix

For the time I said you are like the guys because you like football. I am sorry, it is great that you like sports and that does not make you any less of a girl.

For the time I was surprised to know that girls like to smoke and drink.

For the time I thought you dress up too modestly or not at all.

For all those times I have judged you for one reason or the other. I know a sorry is not enough , but that is all I have to offer.

All of that being said,  I know it would not make much of a difference.  Feeling bad for what I have done is not enough, neither is a  “sorry”.  As they say, the best apology is changed behavior. If that is the only difference I could make on this day,  I am willing to make a difference, even if it is not significant enough, I am willing to take a chance. Even if it won’t change the way things are, I am willing to hope for an eternity to witness some significant difference.

Therefore, I want to change, I want to stop being judgemental , I want to think differently and also act different.

You wanna know why?  It is because I am a girl who does not want to be judged by society,  I won’t let that be. I know how miserable it feels, and I also know that all the other girls can relate to this.

So I am being the change I want to see in this world ! Are you with me?  Please let me know if you are in the comment section below.  Feel free to share your stories, to tell me how it felt and also if you are willing to change.

Until next time

Lots of love
