We talked with Stephen Done, LFC Curator. He explained that much was recovered from the old Main Stand before demolition. He believed this was an opportunity not to be missed.  Pieces with great meaning that invoke powerful memories could and should be shared with the fans. He emphasised that this would not compromise preserving the heritage of this great club. Significant and unique items would never be released. Tom Murphy’s sculpture of Bill Shankly will always remain where it belongs. However, you can bid for a maquette of the iconic sculpture cast in bronze.

We arrived bright and early at LFC Anfield, New Stand. It was a celebration of 125 years of an extraordinary football club. We pored over statuettes, captured moments photographed, wall graphics, signage, display boards, plaques, crystal and marble. There is a wealth of material to excite any fan.

We were privileged to meet retired player, Ian Callaghan. He holds the record for most appearances for LFC. Part of the magic of visiting Anfield is that you are likely to spot many legends, past and present. Ian explained his life-long love affair with the Club. Everyone who is a supporter remembers Istanbul and the UEFA Cup Final. He recalled watching the televised match at Anfield. He then emerged to find more and more fans coming together around the Stadium, as if drawn by a magnet. There is a stunning photograph of Steven Gerrard and Benitez holding the UEFA Cup in Istanbul. It would look amazing in your entrance hall, or anywhere really.

We admired the tribute boards from the old Main Stand Directors’ Lounge. It is a tribute to the Club that so many of those players are back as ambassadors. As Ian Callaghan says: ‘you never really go away’. This is an opportunity to acquire a piece of football history. The photographs are breath-taking. The memories are priceless. I was a child again, in the Kop, holding my brother’s hand. Jumping up and down to try and see the pitch between a tangle of limbs. Great times.
