Ways to Feel Better When You're Stuck in a Rut

Ways to Feel Better When You’re Stuck in a Rut

Sometimes we all get stuck in a rut, and it’s just part of life. We overwork ourselves and just end up worn out and completely unmotivated. I know how bad it is you guys, I’ve been there. It’s like trying to get yourself out of it but you have absolutely no idea how. It’s one of the hardest things to get out of because you just have absolutely no motivation to do anything.

The truth is, I was like this for the past few days or actually weeks. I had no clue how to get out of it either, I just skipped out on most things and told myself it wasn’t important. Little did I know what I was doing was not only affecting my blog and everything else but also myself. I realized I wasn’t doing anything or getting anything done by just sitting on my a** and waiting until I felt better.

Don’t wait until you feel better, if you do you could never feel better and just never do what you love again. Do you really want that? I didn’t think so. Not one person I know wants to give up what they love. Sure being in a rut sucks, but you’ve got to find your way out of it in order to do what you love. So how do you get out of it you ask? Just keep reading.

  •        Find your motivation.

Motivation can be found in people, music, a post, a show or video, honestly anywhere. Sometimes I’ve even found it in a picture with motivational quotes all over weheartit. It’s not hard, our brains just trick us into thinking it’s hard to find the motivation. Listen to your favorite song, talk with a family member or friend, and remind yourself why you do it. Whatever you’re feeling unmotivated about, writing, filming, editing, working on anything. The thing is when I’m stuck in a rut I have always had this habit to just lock myself away in a room or something in my Comfort Zone and just not think about anything. Reality is if you do this, you’re never going to get anything done until one day probably much later on you decide to get up and come out of that comfort zone. Life isn’t about living in the comfort zone, it’s about living outside of it. That way you can see and do things you wouldn’t be able to if you stayed in that zone. So find your motivation, and fight with your head until it gets all those negative thoughts out of your head. Then get up and do what you need to get done.
  •       Write down why you’re in a rut.

Usually this might sound weird or just plain ridiculous, but I promise it isn’t. Writing down the reasons why you are in a rut, will actually sometimes talk yourself out of them. Once you write them down and look back to see how ridiculous they are, you’ll see why you need to pick yourself back up again. Most of the time, we end up in a rut for the wrongest reasons. Sometimes it can be just because we overwork ourselves and just get lazy and don’t feel like working anymore. The thing is if you look at the things your work gets you such as, food, your house, clothes, makeup, shoes, your kids things, you begin to realize why it’s completely worth all the hard work. I know myself blogging can be exhausting, so sometimes I’ll just write it down in my posts somewhere and it’ll make me feel better and realize how lame I’ve been for being so down and stuck in a rut over something so dumb. Something so little can put us in the biggest rut of our lives. Really it’s up to us, not the things that happen to us.

  •          Take a minute to breathe.

Sometimes we just need to breathe honestly. Take a minute off from writing, filming, editing, all of it and just breathe. Go take a hot bath with some bubbles and stuff to make yourself feel good again, have a pamper night, watch your favorite TV show or YouTube videos. Whatever it is you love to do to relax, just take a second to do it. If you do this it’s going to make you feel so much better and it will help you to take a breath for a minute and then get back to work. Sometimes we just all need a moment to think about other calming things in the midst of working so we don’t stress ourselves out. Our brain likes to avoid stress, I mean of course that’s one of its many jobs. So avoiding stress is definitely going to keep you out of a rut. Just take a minute to let it all out.
4.     Work ahead so you can take a long break.
I’m not saying at all to not work, you should definitely work. What I’m saying is if you feel in a rut about work, just work ahead and take yourself a break for a while. Like say you’re a blogger or vlogger, write and film way ahead of schedule that way if you get behind, it’s okay and you don’t have to stress yourself out and over work yourself or your brain because posts and videos will already be coming out. You’ll be able to catch up at any time and not have to freak out or worry as much about it. They will be ready to come out and you can take a breather. I do this all the time and it’s honestly nice to not have to write every day or every time my scheduled posts are already all out. Take a couple days out of your week to write ahead, and just schedule and edit and create images. Super simple and less stress on yourself!

So that’s all for this post you guys, thank you so much for reading and I really hope these tips help you to get yourself out of a rut. Remember, being unmotivated and stuck in a rut is just a part of life and it happens to everyone. Just take a moment to breathe and let it all out, then get back to work.
