Demi Lovato shared with her fans that she’s celebrating six months of sobriety
Demi Lovato has a lot to celebrate. The singer marked six months of sobriety with two Instagram stories and a caption that read “best day ever.” Sending all of the applause to this powerhouse singer for an incredible mark of resilience.
Lovato took to Instagram to share a picture of a lavender frosted cake, with the number six spelled out in chocolate chips. The card that accompanied the cake read: “Happy six mo. We are so fucking proud of you! Love, Team DL.” The singer also posted a picture of her six months sobriety keychain, alongside praying hands.
In July, Lovato was hospitalized after an overdose. She stayed in the hospital for almost two weeks, and then was released for in-patient treatment, according to PEOPLE. All across the internet, her fans and friends and fellow artists spread their love for the singer, sending her well wishes and support, alongside the hashtag #prayfordemi.
Lovato returned the love, taking to Instagram to thank everyone for their kind words.
“To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond,” she wrote. “Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time.”
Lovato added that this is an an ongoing battle and she’s still working on recovery. “I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction,” she explained. “What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.”
The singer has been an open book when it comes to her long-time struggles with sobriety. Back in 2013, she spoke to Access Hollywood about her addiction to cocaine and the ways that she would hide the drug without anyone knowing.
“Something I’ve never talked about before, but with my drug use I could hide it to where I would sneak drugs. I couldn’t go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes,” she said. “I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I’d sneak to the bathroom and I’d do it.”
This past June, the singer released the song “Sober” and opened up about breaking her six years of sobriety. “Momma, I’m so sorry / I’m not sober anymore / Daddy, please forgive me / For the drinks spilled on the floor,” she sang.
I’m pretty confident that we’re all Team DL around here and are cheering her on during this long, difficult journey.
