Value of Mobile Phone = Value of Photos,Videos,Msgs Inside

Was reading an article about a Man offering SGD$10K for the return of his lost cell Phone. It's an ASUS phone, and as said to hold very private videos, photos, which he doesn't want anyone to see. Full Article here

And i recalled the time i lost my Sony Ericsson W395.

As you can tell, the value of this phone is less than S$200, no Video call, no 12megapixel camera (its a 2megapixel), no large 32GB storage like an iPhone or a full touch interface (its a slide keypad)

How it Happened:
I was along Jurong attending a meeting and after the meeting, i headed to the ladies. Normally i don't take out my cellphone in the ladies but i did that very day.
I left the ladies, took a bus and travelled for 15mins. Got off the bus at the interchange and decided to take a look at my W395...finding it MISSING from my bag!

The Deciding Factor:
A lightning of thoughts ran through my head.
1. Nah, its a cheap phone; its not worth the ride back and crawling that mountain to pick it up.
2. But my photos! my embarrassing stupid faceshots!
3. My files..oh that's just music.
4. But it costs 150bucks! and getting a new SIM card is like 15bucks more!
*hmm hmm decisions decisions all made in split seconds*

To return or not to, that was the deciding factor!
In my mind i thought about the Photos i've taken, the messages I've received, the embarassing 'Mou Li Tao' (meaningless,no meaning) photos/videos I've taken...

YES! i gotta go get the phone, no matter what the value it was!

The Distance Back:
i paid the effort of boarding another bus back to the office which was in Jurong and the whole area was under massive roadworks. Which meant that I had to cross the road along JTC Building - the middle path between both roads was actually under works so the path had a massive gap filled with mud which you had to jump over to get to the other side of the road. To add drama to the situation, it was raining cats and dogs, yes it did!
Thus i literally waddled in mud as i jumped across the gap to the other side. in the midst of that, had my left heel fall off into the mud while i was crossing so i decided to forget about using the umbrella, fished my heel from the mud, then sprinting across the road to the office(lucky day-the traffic was low). Finally going up a small hill of steps (iHub) running to the third floor all out of breath, breathing like a fish out of water!
I dashed to the ladies and imagine my face when i saw my phone laying there above the cubicle!
A lady was looking at herself in the mirror when she saw me all hyped up and interrupted her sanctuary. She did notice me grabbing the cellphone from the ladies and perhaps she knew what happened.

I did lose a heel but lucky for me, it was a good choice to wear an ugly pair that day.
All that for a simple phone as compared to the iPhone, SE Satio, SE Aino, HTC Hero..
Then again, if I owned a higher-end model, I'll be sure I won't be that lucky to find it resting untouched and waiting for me.

My point is, don't get an expensive phone if you're always missing things. Don't take private videos, photos and have the risk of it being leaked. Backup your photo & videos somewhere safe immediately and remove them from the phone.

Do you think he'll get his phone back with the offer of S$10k?
Perhaps he would, perhaps he won't.

And if he doesn't, imagine if the guy losing the phone was Gary from the famous 'the guy who bangs anything that walked', can you imagine the repercussions?

This happened not too long ago and I'm glad i still have the Sony Ericsson's W395. Its easy to use, plays mp3, radio, takes 2.0MP photos & videos. I can text and i can call. Adding, its so tiny and classy with its purple tones. And no, i won't take my cellphone out in the ladies no more.
