Wasted days and Wasted Nights.....

Let's start with: So far, so good.

- The prep leading up to transplant went well. Toxic chemicals of all sorts were dutifully pumped in, processed, and ejected. And every stage monitored to epic levels .....

- Transplant occurred 10/19. A 'simple' process of thawing out frozen Stem Cells and injecting them intravenously. Eight mini-bags in all, semi-fresh from my hero donor.

- And now we wait. Even now my 'old' bone marrow has already broken down and is being flushed out while the 'new' stem cells try to make it to their new home. In the mean time there is little left of an immune system so there are new and exciting drugs, chemicals, and IVs running every day and all night to temporarily fight off infection. It's an insane dance of science, technology, chemical, and hope. And time. We won't even know if this is doing anything positive until Thanksgiving or so.

If it works, sometime in 6 months to a year I will be able to foray into the World again, maybe even into public.

If it doesn't work? Well, that's a horse of a different color. I may maintain short-term remission or I may fall head-long into failure. Failure means living out months to a few years in fear of infection and in near total isolation.

For now I just sit in this room with only poor Queenie as visitor, near hourly nurse/aid/doc interruptions, eat, drink, and watch TV. Not much else allowed until mid-November.

Waste a day or waste a night, hoping for the big pay-off.
