No.6: "Rocket Ride" - Jannicke Abrahamsen"Rocket Ride" is the third song to feature in the Schlagertastic 50 from the same contest, making Norway MGP 2007. the joint most schlagertastic national final ever. "Rocket Ride" joined Jenny Jenssen's "Vil Du Har Svar" and the eventual winner "Ven A Bailer Con Migo" by Guri Schanke to give the Schlagerboys, on our first trip to Oslo for MGP, an unforgettable schlagerfest.
Jannicke came out of the second chance round and was never a favourite until the very night when suddenly the song took on a life of its own. We're pretty sure the welcoming cheer from the audience that greeted Jannicke at the beginning of "Rocket Ride" was genuine. The shots of the audience, who are without exception standing up and cheering after the key change show how much the crowd was loving this song. It went on to come second, and really should have won.
"Rocket Ride" is another Lord Thomas of G:son schlager anthem, This came in the middle of the Lord Thomas schlager peak where just about everything he touched turned in to a sparkly, glittery fabulous 3 minutes of unadulterated joy. The song starts the way it means to carry on, slowing down only to announce the fabulous key change just before the final chorus. Our favourite line is, "You will feel like a King or a Queen".
Jannicke gives the schlager performance of the year, with a dance routine for the chorus that we have been able to perform different versions of at many schlager discos over the years, depending how much vodka we've consumed. She struts around the stage in a glittery space suit and is backed by a future Velvet Inc! OMG you can't get much better than this, which is probably why we haven't seen her back in MGP since. We're crossing our fingers for a ten year anniversary come-back in 2017!
We met Jannicke immediately after the show and told her she was completely fabulous. We can't actually recall her saying anything to us but we do have an amazing photo of our two schlager heroes from the night, Jannicke and Jenny so we assume she didn't mind us fawning over her enthusiastically.
Douze points Jannnicke Abrahamsen! You are completely fabulous and you are also the highest of 9 Norway entries on the Schlagertastic 50 which is a feat you can be schlager-proud of. Fab-u-lous!
