Goodbye Romania: Here Are Your Best Bits!

OMG! Romania have been chucked out of Eurovision because their song is rubbish!* The Schlagerboys approve of this new rule and are hoping someone is looking at San Marino next.

This year the Romania song wasn't among our faves but the country does have a respectable schlager predigree so it's only right that we celebrate the best that Romania has made us sit through over the last 20 years. Romania, here are your best bits, in reverse order of course:

5. "Pe-o margine de lume": Nico & Vlad, 2008

Vlad was nice to look at in 2008 and this made Nico's catawauling throughout the whole song all the more bearable. We don't normally support ballads but we make an exception for dreamy eyes and a nice fitting shirt.

4.  "Jokero": Akcent ft Nico (from out of Nico & Vlad), 2006

This was beaten in their National Final by our Number 3 and the Schlagerboys are split on which song should have gone to Athens. We can't find the National Final video clip but we're sure Nico (from out of Nico & Vlad) stood on a podium with a wind machine blowing up her skirt while the boy band posed around her. She clearly decided wailing out of tune through ballads with a hunky baritone was the way forward.

3. "Tornero": Mihai, 2006

It's all about the "he he he he he he he heheeeee" bit and the key change. Plus he was in the same Eurovision as Carola so he gets extra points.

2. "Zaleilah": Mandinga 2012

Mandinga went down a storm at Amsterdam Eurovision In Concert but suffered from a huge empty stage in Baku. Still, "Zaleilah" provided us with hot boy dancers and a lazy dance routine one can perform after four vodka and diet cokes so we're happy.

1. "Dr Frankenstein": LaGaylia Frazer, 2008

OMG! It's like a new "It's Raining Men" and they only went and sent a ballad instead! How on earth Romania ditched this camp masterpiece is beyond us. This song has an exciting camptastic introduction and then tops it with an amazing camptastic key change near the end. We've no idea where LaGaylia is now but we hope she's performing in gay clubs surrounding the Black Sea to this day, and loving it!

* not really, it's because they haven't paid their coffee money or something.
