Best of 2008

20. Calexico - Carried to Dust

19. Kings of Leon - Only By the Night

18. Neon Neon - Stainless Style

17. Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles

16. My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges

Had it not been for two of the best tracks of the year (Librarian and Touch Me I'm Going to Scream pt. 2), this album would never have made it as far as this list. Expect more from MMJ though.

15. She & Him - Volume One
Hardly any song below average, yet a great hit is missing!

14. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
Were it not been for the hype, I'd totally ignore them. The more I listen to the album though, the more I like it!

13. Hot Chip - Made In the Dark

12. Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid

11. Glasvegas - Glasvegas

No wonder your Daddy's gone to Las Vegas ;)

10. Envelopes - Here Comes the Wind

When France and Sweeden move towards one another, they converge on Biribiris tenth place!

9. Nick Cave - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!

Blame it on my nationality if you want, but I just couldn't help leaving him out!

8. Coldplay - Viva La Vida 0r Death and All His Friends
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
...

For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name

Ole, ole I can't stop singing those lyrics

7. Autamata - Colours of Sounds

Yes I know, an unlikely entry with which most of you wouldn't agree, but the shock this album gave me, when I first heard it,some 9 months ago, albeit reduced in intensity now, has yet to go away.

6. TV On The Radio - Dear Science

5. Black Mountain - In the Future

This meant to be in the Top Ten from long time ago - and thus it is!

4. MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

This had been put aside for long time because on first listening all tracks seemed the same to me. Couldn't be more wrong. Thankfully I did my Christmas revisions and didn't fail the exam.

3. Monika - Avatar

Is it because she is Greek? Nah, me doesn't think so!

2. The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement

It always meant to go to number 1, but...

1. Portishead - Third

...two days ago I gave Third a last-minute more careful listening and I was blown away by the rediscovery of an album that I had liked in the first place but never thought it the best! It might be the Christmas atmosphere or whatever. I know its title urges you put it in third place and thus I would be inclined to do, if a demon didn't prompt me to put it in number one over the last two days! Let's hope I don't regret it soon.
