Have you heard a 5 string cello used in anger like a guitar in a rock band? If that sounds intriguing then welcome to Calum Ingram. Calum is a BBC 6 Music-supported rock singer and cellist and he loves to break out his electric cello and work in riffs and solos with it. As it’s Calum’s voice and cello that are the hallmarks of an Ingram song, he switches genres, tempos, moods and styles quite freely. He can veer from stadium cello rock to folksy Celtic-tinged symphonic ballads. However, he seems to be settling into his rockier side in 2024.

As Calum Ingram’s music runs a wide gambit I’ve included his most recent two singles for your ears to enjoy.

The first is ‘Show Me The Way’. It is a theatrical classic rock track which fans of Eagles or Dire Straits would feel at home with. Watch out for the cello solo. It reminds me of how Deborah Henson-Conant rocks an electric harp. The second track is ‘Cup of Urafain’ which features Michael G. Ronstadt, also on electric and acoustic cello. This is a more symphonic rootsy rock track that sees two great performers playing off against each other as they move between Scotland and Wales.
