Ally Brooke Teases Fifth Harmony Reunion & Calls For Singers’ Strike Over Wages: “We Have Billions of Streams…But We Don’t Get Anything”

As Hollywood works to rebuild the relationship between studios and artists after the end of a bitter and highly publicized writers strike last month (namely over compensation, the use of artificial intelligence, and streaming residual pay), former Fifth Harmony star Ally Brooke suggests singers and musicians rally for a similar cause.

Details inside.

Brooke, hot on the promo trail for her new single ‘Gone to Bed,’ dropped by ‘The Zach Sang Show’ recently to discuss the Stevie Matthew and Tommy Parker-produced cut, talk 5H, and more.

And though it’s been five years since the hitmaking quintet broke up indefinitely, the hosts quizzed Ally about if she and her former groupmates are still enjoying the fruits of their collective success given that they’re one of the best-selling female groups of all time.

To Zach and co.’s surprise, she kept it all the way real.

“We literally have billions of streams, but unfortunately we don’t get anything [financial compensation] off of streams,” she revealed.

Later in the chat the 30-year-old EMMY winner shared Sound Exchange did help each 5H member collect $5,000 a month apiece for their overall discography for a period of time before stopping those payments.

“It’s criminal,” she said about the experience – even sharing that no group member got publishing on their biggest hits. “We don’t have the kind of protection we should; we should do our own kind of strike.”

Ultimately, she concluded the lack of safeguarding came as a result of her management at the time.

“You’re literally giving your life away; we need to do better,” she said before ending on a positive note. “Hopefully by me sharing my experience someone else can have their eyes open and maybe learn from it and take something away from it.”

The wages chat came as one of many standouts from the loaded conversation, which also featured Brooke teasing a reunion of some sort with her 5H bandmates.

Although she admitted to recently reconnecting with Dinah Jane, she’s not sure if Camila Cabello, Normani, and Lauren Jauregui would be on board.

“We’ll see,” she said in response to reuniting with all 5 members before admitting the girls didn’t keep each others’ phone numbers for a long time. “I feel like we all had to go on our own journey and path [before reconnecting].”

After years of “chaos and division,” Brooke says the ladies have had space and developed but admits she wasn’t happy about their 2018 breakup.

“I was so angry when it ended; I was pissed,” she said – even sharing she sent them all texts expressing her disappointment.

Years removed, the songstress says she now appreciates the departure.

“I think it was a blessing in disguise [because] I was able to do my own thing, find my own path, and be my own self; my best self.”
