SWV STUN for Vogue / Reflect on “Messy” Reality Show with Xscape, Being Underrated, & New Tour with Jodeci

Check out SWV!

Coko, LeLee, and Taj are certified R&B icons and have been receiving shine anew thanks to their hit Bravo series ‘SWV & Xscape: The Queens of R&B.’

Addictive in earnest, the show saw the beloved groups join forces for a co-headlined concert.

With big success and even bigger personalities in the mix, sparks flew and quickly popped off on social media too.

Now that the show is in rearview, SWV is looking forward while also ruminating on their illustrious past.

For, beyond posting it up in a striking shoot lensed by Salvatore Demaio, the trio opened up about their legacy, not getting their dues, ‘The Queens of R&B,’ and their upcoming tour with Jodeci.

Head below for clips and quotes…

@voguemagazine The members of #SWV are enjoying a much-deserved burst of attention and newfound fans thanks to a new reality show on Bravo, “SWV & Xscape: The Queens of R&B.” And thankfully, the ladies are capitalizing on their second wind. This summer, they’ll go on tour with another legendary R&B act: the suave all-male group #Jodeci. Here, before they hit the road, we caught up with the group to play a delightful (and fashion-filled) round of #MostLikelyTo ♬ original sound – Vogue

Lelee on the Drama-Drenched Series with Xscape:

“My cousin Tony was upset they showed a little bit of him [on the show],” Lyons says with a laugh. “He was like, ‘Cuz, but we filmed for eight hours!’ I was like, ‘This is how it works, sir, you’re not important.’ I think they focused on the messy stuff way too much.”

Coko on New Learnings Doing Such a Show:

“Just the social media fans You know, the trolls. They pick and choose who they like, who they dislike, whatever. It’s a lot.”

Lelee on Getting Their Dues:

“I would love to see us get a lifetime-achievement award, a Grammy, all of those things we should have gotten when we were coming up. We deserve it all from our peers.

[Being sampled by new artists]  just reminds me of how blessed we really are and how much of an impact we have made on in the music industry to a lot of up-and-coming artists. Even though we don’t feel like we get the accolades we deserve, we get a lot back in love.”

Coko Gets Candid About What She Felt Held the Group Back:

“RCA was a label that really wasn’t popular. At the time that we signed with RCA, its nickname was Record Cemetery of America. When SWV went to RCA, no one expected us to blow up like we did. I don’t think RCA even expected us to be as big as we were. I felt like they didn’t know how to play the game. It’s a political game, and they didn’t play that game. No, we didn’t get nominated like we should have, we didn’t win the awards like we should have, and so that played a big part in everything.”

Taj on Upcoming Tour with Jodeci:

“You’re gonna get that street edge and that good music that you loved back in the ’90s. Jodeci can still get the girls up and running!” she adds with a laugh.”
