Thursday, ABC celebrated the 30th anniversary of the release of the animated classic ‘Beauty & the Beast’ with a live-action/animated hybrid TV special starring GRAMMY winners H.E.R. (“Belle”) and Shania Twain (Mrs. Potts) as well as GRAMMY nominee Josh Groban (“Beast”), comedy legends Martin Short (“Cogsworth”) and David Alan Grier (“Lumiere), and many others.
Featuring musical performances in front of stunning sets and costumes inspired by the iconic tale, the commemorative event garnered rave reviews for H.E.R. and Groban’s take on the title track (which saw its original led to OSCAR glory in 1992 thanks to Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson).
Pulling in 4.5 million viewers on December 15, ‘Beauty’ was the night’s most-watched special program and third most-watched scripted showing overall.
Among all airings Thursday, only football (10.3 million), CBS hit series ‘Ghosts‘ (7 million), and CBS’ ‘So Help Me Todd‘ (4.67 million) attracted more eyes.
